  • Galveston Hurricane

    Galveston Hurricane
    The Galveston hurricane hit land on September 8, 1900. The Galveston Hurricane is considered the deadliest natural disaster in all of US history. Although the exact death toll is unknown, it is estimated that 6,000-8,000 people died due to this hurricane. Thousands of homes were completely destroyed and thousands of home were left with major damage.

    On June 28, 1914, a young Serbian patriot shot and killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Due to this, the entire content of Europe was soon engulfed in a war. The war eventually became a global conflict. By the end of the war, millions and millions of people would be dead.

    On November 11, 1918, the fighting was finally over and the guns all fell silent. The signing of the Treaty of Versailles is what officially ended World War 1. The Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919. By the end of World War 1, the total numbers of deaths is estimated to be between 15 and 40 million people. This includes both civilian and military casualties. World War 1 was one of the deadliest conflicts in all human history.

    On October 29, 1929, there was a major stock market crash in the United States. This fateful day in history is referred to as Black Tuesday. The market lost billions of dollars on Black Tuesday which led to the decade long Great Depression. These were extremely dark and trying times for Americans.

    On September 1, 1939, Nazi Germany invaded Poland which was the starting event of World War 2. During this time, Germany was dictated by Adolf Hitler. On September 3rd, France and the United Kingdom declared war on Germany.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    On December 7th, 1941, the Japanese Navy orchestrated a surprise military strike on the American navel base at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii. The United States then declared war on Japan. Prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States was a neutral country in World War 2. Just 1 day after the attack, on December 8th, 1941, the United States formally entered the war on the side of the Allies.

    On September 2, 1945, Japan signed a surrender document which marked the end of the conflict of World War 2. World War 2 was the deadliest conflict in history, resulting in an estimated 70 to 85 million fatalities.

    In 1947, there was major political rivalry between the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). This major political rivalry lead to the start of the Cold War.

    Brown V. Board of Education was a landmark decision made by the U.S. Supreme Court. This landmark decision ruled that U.S. state laws establishing racial segregation in public schools are unconstitutional.
  • "I Have a Dream"

    "I Have a Dream"
    On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered the famous and iconic speech, "I Have a Dream". In this speech, King calls for civil and economic rights and for an end to racism in the United States.

    On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 landed on the Moon. This marked the first time humans had landed on the Moon. On July 21, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans in history to step onto the moon's surface.
