The Prohibtion Eperiment
In January of 1920, the Eighteenth Amendment went into effect. The Eighteenth Amendment launched the era known as the Prohibition. The Prohibition era made it illegal to manufacture, sell, and transport an alcholic beverages. Many people still manufactured, sold, and transported alcholic beverages illegally. The reason why the amendment came to be was because they thought that drinking too much led to crime and child and wife abuse. -

Native Americans Gain Support
Native Americans gained strong government supports from the New Dea;. They recieved full citizenship by law in 1924 and in 1933, President Roosevelt said John Colier was the commissioner of Indian affairs. The Indian Reorganization Act of 1934 was an extreme change in the government policy. It helped resore some reservation lands to tthe tribes ownership. -
The Scopes Trial
In March 1925, Tennesse passed their first law saying that it was a crime to teach evolution. The American Civil Liberties (ACLU) promised to step in and stand up for any teacher who was teaching evolution. A young biology teacher named John T. Scopes started teaching evolution. The ACLU hired Clarence Darrow, who was a famous lawyer, to back up Scopes in his trials. The trial opened on July 10, 1925 and almost became a national senstion overnight. -
Lindbergh's Flight
Charles A. Lindbergh was a beloved hero of the 1920's and he wasn't an athelete, in fact he was s small town pilot. He decided to go after a $25,000 prize. Lindbergh took off in New York City in the Spirit of St. Louis and flew up the coat to Newfoundland. After 33 hours and 29 minutes he set down at Le Bourget airfiel outside of Paris. In the time of sensationalism, excess, and crime, he became the idol for hoensty a bravery that the nation seemed to have lost. -
The Stock Market Crashes
In September of 1929, the stok markets reached a high peak the dropped dramatically. Many people that owned stock quikly sold them nd pulled out. On October 24th, the stocket market completly fell and more people paniced and unloaded their shares. On october 29th, now known as Black Tuesday, the rest of the stock market crashed, and so did the nation's confidence. Everyone that owned stocks kept selling out which made it worse. People that bought stocks with credit found themselves in huge debt. -
The Environment
Americans kept benefiting from the New Deal Act and the efforts to protect the environment. Roosevelt was highly committed to conservation. The Civilian Conservation Corps planted tres, created hiking trails, and built fire look out towers. The Soil Conservation Service taught the farmers how to rotate their crops, how to plow, and terracing. -
Banking and Finance
New Deal established new boundaries for banking and financing. The Securiteies and Exchange Commission (SEC) continues to watch the stock market and the enfore federal laws that regard the sale of stocks and bonds. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) was createed by the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 and they shored up the banking system by reassuring individual depositors that their savings are protected against loss in the event of a bank failure. -
Blitzkrieg in Poland
On this day, the German airforce, also know as Luftwaffe, started pouring bombs on military bases, airfields, railroads, and cities. Whu=ile the airforce was doing that, the Germans were in tanks going across the Polish countryside spreading terror and confusion. This invasion was the first of the test of Germany's newest military strategy, the blitzkrieg, also known a the lightining war. -
Truman Becomes President
On April 12, 1945, Truman became president when Roosevelt died. Truman was a former Missouri senator and then picked up Roosevelt's spot. Before becoming president, Truman served as vice-president for two months. While being vice-president, Truman wasn included in on the top policy deicsions, he didn't even know that the United States was making an atomic bomb. In the end Truman was honest and had a willingness to make tough decisions which is most important for being a president. -

The Potsdam Conference
The United States, Great Britian, and the Soviet Union met together at the final wartimes conference at Potsdam near Berlin. The United States, Great Britian, and Soviet Union are known as the Big Three because they were the same three that were present at Yalta in Fubuary of 1945. Clement Attlee replaced Churchill as Britian's representative and Truman replaced Roosevelt's place. At Yalta, Stalin ltol Roosevelt that he would allow free elections. -
North Korea Attacks South Korea
No June 25th, North Korea sweppt their forces across the 38th parallel in a surprise attack on South Korea. After North Korea did that, the Korean War then started. Within a few days after the surprise attack, North Korea was deep into South Korea. South Korea called the United Nations to vote to stop the North Korean invasion, but when then situation came up to order, the United Nations Security Council an the Soviet Union wasn't there becasue the Soviets were boycotting.
