British declare war on the US to try to retake their lost territories.US wins a lot and wins the war. The War of 1812 had lots more Naval warfare than the American Revolution.The US becomes more of a World Power. -
Mexican-American War
Dispute over where the US-Mexico border was. Mexico declares war and then loses it when US Marines entered Mexico City. Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo is signed. The US gains the Mexican Cession and the US stretches from sea to sea. -
California Gold Rush
Gold was found in the Rocky's in 1847 and lots of US citizens rushed to California and made it a US state.Gold becomes the main system of currency in the West.Men became rich or very poor. -
The American Civil War
In 1861 the US split between the North and South and declared war on each other. South Carolina was the first to secede and the first to have a Regiment of soldiers come from it in the South.The North wins after almost exactly 4 years of fighting. The war leaves the US destroyed and unable to fight for many years. -
Lincolns Assasination
After the end of the Civil War Lincoln went to a show at Ford's Theatre. John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln in the back of the head then jumped onto the stage and then ran out of town.John Wilkes Booth had originally been planning to kill Ulysses S. Grant. Grants wife and Lincolns wife didnt like each other very much so Grant didnt come.
