    U.S. GOVT. UNDER THE CONSTITUTION BEGINS
    Washington is introduced as the president to the American people. The people make suggestions on different titles to give the president, such as "Excellency," and "Highness."
  • FIRST CENSUS

    FIRST CENSUS
    This recording of the United States states that the total population is 3.9 million people. 760,000 of this 3.9 million are African Americans, and 700,000 of them are enslaved.
  • BILL OF RIGHTS IS RATIFIED, THE US GROWS

    BILL OF RIGHTS IS RATIFIED, THE US GROWS
    The Bill of Rights officially became valid, and became part of the Constitution. During this time, the US grows and Vermont becomes the 14th state.
  • KENTUCKY JOINS THE US

    KENTUCKY JOINS THE US
    Kentucky becomes the 15th state in the Union, and also becomes the first state to grant universal manhood suffrage. There is another presidential election during this time as well, but both Washington and Adams are reelected as president and vice president.
  • NEUTRALITY

    NEUTRALITY
    War between France and Great Britain begins to rage. The president of the time, George Washington, announces that the U.S. is neutral in this battle, and the U.S. does not get involved.

    JAY'S TREATY
    The Northwest Territory begins to open up for availability, as the British withdraw from the area. As the British withdraw, the US agrees to pay pre-Revolution debts.

    NORTHWEST TERRITORY
    Indians are defeated at Fallen Timbers, and the northwest territory becomes open for settlement. The U.S. also becomes allowed to have navigation rights of the Mississippi river by Spain.

    ADAMS AND JEFFERSON ELECTION, CHANGES
    In another presidential election, a federalist parties vs. republican parties is seen. A federalist (John Adams,) beats a republican (Thomas Jefferson,) in the election and becomes president. Jefferson becomes Vice President.

    QUASI WAR BEGINS
    The Quasi war was a limited, and undeclared war between France and the US. This war begins when France sparked the growing tension of the nations by trying to bribe US comissioners in Paris.

    George Washington passes away in Virginia at age 67. A book titles, "The Life and Memorable Actions of George Washington," is written by Weems. It was published the following year.
  • JEFFERSON AND BURR PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION AND CHANGES

    JEFFERSON AND BURR PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION AND CHANGES
    The Democratic and Republican team (Jefferson and Burr) tie for president. The are chosen above Adams and Pinckney who were both Federalists. During this time, more area becomes available for greater settlement after a new Land Act provides credit and low down payments for buying land in the North West Territory.
  • JEFFERSON BECOMES 3RD PRESIDENT

    JEFFERSON BECOMES 3RD PRESIDENT
    After Jefferson and Burr tied as president, the House of Representatives is forced into action, because candidates were not nominated for President and VP separately. Jefferson wins by 36 ballots and becomes the Third President of the US.
  • LAND EXPANSION- LOUISIANA TERRITORY AND 17TH STATE

    LAND EXPANSION- LOUISIANA TERRITORY AND 17TH STATE
    The United States purchases the Louisiana Territory from France for $15 million. This purchase causes to US to nearly double in size. During this time, Ohio becomes the 17th state.
  • 12TH AMENDMENT

    12TH AMENDMENT
    The 12th Amendment is approved of and changes the election process, creating separate elections for President and VP. There is another Presidential election, Jefferson is once again elected president, and George Clinton is elected as Vice President.

    BAN ON SLAVE TRADE + EMBARGO ACT
    The congress passed a Ban on Slave trade, (aka the importation of slaves.) This congress action follows that as required by the US Constitution.The Embargo act is also passed by Congress. This Act is passed to stand up to British and French trade interference.

    Another presidential election takes place, electing James Madison as President and George Clinton is, once again, voted for Vice President. This creates a Democratic-Republican team running our country.
  • EMBARGO ACT REPEAL

    EMBARGO ACT REPEAL
    The Embargo Act is declared invalid. Congress allows trade with every country, excluding France and Britain. Future President, Abraham Lincoln is also born during this time.
  • WAR OF 1812

    WAR OF 1812
    The United States declared war of Great Britain, due to the follopwing issues: Trade, freedon of the seas, boarders, and the rights of nuetrals. Westerners support the war, whereas New Englanders do not. Tecumseh Indians support the British and fight on their side.

    WAR OF 1812 ENDS
    The fighting continues. The British attackn and burn Washington DC. After this, the US wins the Battle of Fort McHenry in the Baltimore Harbor. AFter this, the Hartford Convection takes place, where Federalists oppose the war of 1812. The war is then ended by the signing of the Treaty of Ghent.

    OLD SOUTHWEST
    The old Southwest, otherwise known as the Alabama and Mississippi Territories, becomes open to the migration of American Settlers. This territory opens up after the Creek War when the US defeated the Indians.
  • MONROE AND TOMPKINS ELECTIONS + U.S. CHANGES

    MONROE AND TOMPKINS ELECTIONS + U.S. CHANGES
    James Monroe and Daniel Tompkins are elected as a Democratic-Republican team as they are elected President and Vice President. During this change is presidency, there was other change as well. Some of these changes include the joining of a 19th state, (Indiana) and the first protective Tariff is passed by congress.

    MORE EXPANSION, 24TH STATE
    Due to the Missouri Compromise of 1820, Missouri joins America as the 24th state, but it is a Slave State. It is one of the few areas where slavery is allowed. During this time, there is more expansion as the first American settlers arrive in Texas.

    MONROE DOCTRINE
    The Monroe Doctrine stated that "any intervention by external powers in the politics of the Americas is a potentially hostile act against the US." This Doctrine warned Europe to not interfere with Western Hemisphere affairs.
  • FORTH CENSUS

    FORTH CENSUS
    New Population of The United States is recorded. There is a recorded amount of 10 million people in the U.S. This population consists of 1.7 million African Americans. Of this 1.7 million, 1.5 million is enslaved.
