Bought from France, this land doubled the size of the U.S. President Thomas Jefferson made the deal. -
The War of 1812
AKA, the Second War for independence. U.S. defeated the British. Andrew Jackson emerged as a war hero by saving the city of New Orleans. -
The Trail of Tears
White settlers in Georgia wanted Cherokee lands. President Jackson sided with the whites and ordeared the removal of the Cherokee to Oklahoma. Many died. -
The Mexican War
A sequel to the Texas Revolution, this war featured a four month cnflict over Mexico's northern territory. The U.S. got 1/4th of its total current territory. -
The Civil War Begins
When Abraham Lincoln won the electon of 1860, South Carolina led many other sothern states in seceeding from the Unon. Lincoln declared war to bring them back.
