The War of 1812
AKA The second War for independence. U.S. defeated the British. Andrew Jackson emerged a war hero by saving the city of New Orleans. -
The Trail of Tears
White settlers in Georgia wanted Cherokee lands. President Jackson sided with the whites and ordered the removal of the Cherokee to Oklahoma. Many died. -
The Mexican War
A sequel to the Texas Revolution, this war featured a 4 month conflict over Mexico's northern territory. The U.S. got 1/4th its total current territory. -

When Abraham Lincoln won the election of 1860, South Carolina led many other southern states in seceeding from the Union, Lincoln declared war to bring them back.
