Texas Annexation
Texans declared independence from mexico after mexico abolished slavery in their territory. they declared independence from mexico then it took the US 10 years to officially accept Texas as a state. Til this day its called the lone-star state. This is important because it is the start of the Mexican-American war. -
Northwest Ordinance
after winning the revolution, the US and England signed the Treaty of Paris. This gave the colonies from the Appalachian mountains to the Mississippi river . This territory was owned by the national government. this was important because it allowed all new territory's to enter in as equal states. this also allowed the president to declare a place a state. -
Alien & Sedition Act
the Alien and Sedition act was important because it was where the federalists but a restriction on the citizens and that aliens cant be considered to be a citizen. the sedition act was restricted the freedom of speech. these are important because the sedition act went against our 1 amendment right . this is important because it affects immigration. this also effected the freedom of speech. -
Virginia and Kentucky resolution
Thomas Jefferson and James Madison wrote the Virginia and Kentucky resolution. this was wrote because the alien and sedition act was infringing upon states rights and was unconstitutional . Many places were trying to nullify federal laws. This is important because this is when states start trying to over rule federal law. created a controversy of states rights. -

Louisiana Purchase
President Jefferson purchased this territory through a Treaty with France. France sold it because Napoleon needed to fund the French Revolution. Jefferson did this to set a precedent for future land acquisition. This is important because Jefferson had a strict interpretation of the constitution and he felt the it was wrong to purchase land but did it anyways. -

Monroe Doctrine
The President James Monroe created the Monroe doctrine. this was created to warn European powers not to recolonize in Latin America. After he made the Monroe doctrine we depended on the British navy because we didn't have a strong military. The Monroe doctrine was also used by other Presidents such as Taft , Roosevelt, and Wilson. This also lead to a resettlement between the 2 regions. -
Nullification Crisis
John Calhoun from South Carolina was the one who started this Crisis. He thought that the states should have the right to void out anything that goes against or hurt the state but its a federal law. The bill was a very high tariff tax that made it hard to almost impossible for the south to make money off of their goods . The issue that came out of this is do states have a right to overrule the federal government. which is no because they still pay tariffs but lower style tariffs. -
Oregon Treaty
The Americans, British, and the Spanish all controlled the Oregon territory but, after the Adams-Onis treaty the Spanish gave up their clam to the land. Conflict between the Americas and the British led to a negotiation of a British-American border. Newspapers called it " 54'40 or Fight ! ". the negotiation lead to the US geting up to the 49 parallel. -
Mexican cession(Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo)
The Mexican cession completes the Manifest destiny. It gave the Americans control from the Pacific sea to the Atlantic sea .This gave us a lot of land to expand the country. it gave us what makes up most of the southwestern states. -
