The French and Indian War
It was a North American war that lasted 7 years between Britain and France. In conclusion of the war, they created the treaty of Paris. Britain ended up gaining a massive amount of territory in North America which later led to disputes of frontier policies and expenses from the war which resulted in colonial discontent which was one of the sparks that started the revolution. -

The Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was a movement passed by the British in which they would tax Americans three cents on sugar, including coffee, wine, and indigo. It angered the colonists that the British passed this without asking their permission and trying to control them. -
The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a movement passed by the British in which any newspaper, pamphlet, public note, or legal document would have to have a British seal which cost money. This angered the colonists greatly and they decided to revolt. -
The Stamp Act Congress
In an angry response to the Stamp act they created the Stamp Act Congress. It was their first step forward towards revolution. -
Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts were multiple taxes passed on glass, lead, paper, paints, and tea. This resulted in another revolt by the colonists and in response the British took away the taxes but sent troops over because they felt the colonists were getting too violent. -
The Boston Massacre
In the infamous Boston Massacre a group of British troops opened fire on unarmed colonists. It only resulted in the colonists distrusting the British even more than they had, and made them furious. -
The Boston Tea Party
Due to their anger towards the British Parliament, a group of colonists, known as the Sons of Liberty, disguised themselves as native americans so they could board the British ships and dump all of the tea into the harbor. This led to other colonists refusing to buy tea from the British creating more tension and damaging the British economy. -
The First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress was a five day meeting between 56 delegates from 12 states who discussed the issues of liberty and rights of the colonists and came to the conclusion that Britain didn’t have the right the pass laws on them. -
The Battles of Lexington and Concord
It was the first battle of the Revolutionary War. The British had a major loss of troops and the colonists saw it as a good start of the war. It gave them more confidence and hope. -
The Second Continental Congress
In 1775, the congress met again due to the issues of disorganization in their armed forces. They created the Continental army and elected George Washington as commander-in-chief . They met continuously afterward and they created the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and the Marine Corps. -
George Washington named Commander in Chief
George Washington was made commander-in- chief of the Continental Army. He had military experience having fought for the british in the French and Indian War. People respected him and listened to them. After the colonists won the war, despite what he wanted, he was elected as the first President of the United States. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
In the Battle of Bunker Hill, the Americans were guarding a shipyard near Boston at Breed’s hill. They kept shooting until they ran out of ammunition. The colonists lost and retreated but the enemy had major losses. -
Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" published
Thomas Paine was a soldier and a writer. He wrote and published “Common Sense” which helped other colonists question the British Parliament and later wrote about Independence. -
The British evacuate Boston
The colonists stole a british cannon and George Washington set up a fortification and aimed it, and other heavy weapons, at the British fleet so they retreated. -
Richard Henry Lee proposes Independence
The Virginian delegates were told to address the question of Independence, and Richard Henry Lee wrote a resolution that set the entire revolution in motion. -
Declaration of Independence adopted
Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence declaring their separation from Britain, after much debate and revision, they decided to follow through with the idea. -
Declaration of Independence signed
All of the delegates signed the Declaration of Independence and in response Britain went through with the war against us.
