The Sugar Act
The Sugar Act added a tax on sugar, molasses, and some other products; that were heavily enforced. The colonists protested against the acts, some even speaking out. Britain reacted by instead placing new laws as a way to still get the money they needed. -
The Currency Act
The Currency Act gave the British complete control over the colony's money. They decided how it was distributed and what everything was worth. The Colonies protested because the British had only printed so much money which was making things more chaotic. However, the British didn't listen and placed harsh laws on smugglers in which they were sent to a court favoring the British, and the colonies. -
The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act made it so every official paper had to be stamped. This stamp you had to pay for and it had to be on EVERYTHING, even playing cards. The colonists responded by saying, "No taxation without representation." They thought they should have a say in their taxes. Britian said they had virtual representation. This just led to boycotting, protests, and damage to the British. -
The Townshend Act
The Townshend Act said that Britian had the right to tax the Colonies. The colonies responded by saying they would make their own goods. So Britian put taxes on imported goods like glass, paint, paper, tea, and more because they thought they would be hard for the colonies to make themselves. This act caused the Sons of Liberty to be created. They started many more boycotts and protests. Britian then sent troops to the Colonies to watch them. -
The Tea Act
The Tea Act let the British have control of all the colonies' sale and importation of tea. The Colonies were tired of all these new taxes and acts. As a response to this act, the Sons of Liberty then dressed as indians and destroyed over 92,000 pounds of tea on British ships. The Colonists wouldn't buy any further tea sent either. This made Britian frusturated.
