    Christopher Columbus
    An Italian explorer sailing for Spain who believed that Asia (India) could be reached by sailing west from Europe. His first voyage was in 1492, wherein he discovered North America (Caribbean islands) and named it the West Indies. He will make four voyages to the new world without fully realizing what he had discovered. He had 4 journeys.Nina, Pinta and the Santa marium were the ships of Columbus.

    Middle Passage
    The Middle Passage was an organization of sending enslaved Africans on a voyage across the Atlantic Ocean to the New World, during the time period of the 16th to the 19th century. Blacks were kidnapping blacks to sell for manufactured goods and alcohol.
  • Southern Colonies

    Southern Colonies
    The Southern Colonies were a group of multiple colonies. These colonies include: Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. These colonies were known for having large plantations and farms with slaves working in them. They got their profit from exporting what they got from agriculture. They were settled near the British Empire. In 1619 is where the slaves began showing up. Crops became a big deal.

    Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement which was found in America. The colony was a private venture with a plan. The plan was to find a route to the Pacific ocean in search for a way to trade with the Orient. The colony lasted long years. After some time, it had been abandoned. Tobacco was what made it successful.

    The England colonies were established for the reason of religious freedom in the 17th century. There were the categories of being part of the pilgrims and their practices and the puritans. These states include: New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Mainly religious freedom.

    Settlements that were placed on the east coast of America. The Plymouth colony was founded by King James the first. This happened during the great puritan migration. The colony was led by William Brand fort, who helped shape institutions. He ruled the colony for 30 years. These came around for religious reasons. They sailed across on the May Flower.

    The Massachusetts bay colony was an English colony which did not reside in England. They wanted independence to keep practicing the puritan religion. The colony grew to be very successful with a large trade industry. The leader was Governor John Winthrop. It was along the Atlantic Coast, so they were able to achieve gathering food from the sea. Their reason to cross was primarily religious. There were thw witch trials in Salem.

    The middle colonies served as very important distribution colonies / Trade centers. The states in the middle colonies included: Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Delaware. Land is a bit more fertile, Not as much slavery, getting out and working.

    On July 4, 1776, the declaration of Independence was approved and it announced the separation of 13 North American British Colonies from Great Britain. Jefferson wrote the declaration of independence. That is why there is the 4th of July celebration. It was our independence from Britain.

    This was an expedition to explore the Louisiana Purchase, this was led by Lewis and Clark, which were sent by Thomas Jefferson. Take path through river and they split up and met back. Started in St. Luis. They saw that the rocky mountain blocked the river.

    American Culture and being more superior is what is was like during these times. This caused Native americans to be removed from their homelands. This is what spurs to move west, for it to be their destiny. It was not good news if you were native american. (1812-1867)

    This declared that Missouri would be a slave state and Maine to not be a slave state. In other words, some territories were allowed to have slaves while others couldn’t. Slavery had beengoing on for about 200 years. And there had to be an equal number of slave states and non slave states. Missouri and main were added, pne slave, one free.
