indian removal act
May 28, 1830 – Indian Removal Act= Congress passed the Indian Removal Act, allowing the president to be able to own all Indian lands east of the Mississippi. With this law all Indians will be compensated with new lands drawn from the public domain west of the Mississippi River. -
Worcester v Georgia
March 3, 1831-Worchester vs. Georgia= The United States Court rules in the case of Worchester vs. Georgia that the Georgia Law requiring white residents to obtain a license violates the Cherokees political rights. The Court ruled that the Cherokees are a separate nation, subject to the authority of the federal government, but only to the federal government, as stipulated by the treaties. -
Test case against georgia law
March 12, 1831 – Test Case against Georgia Law= several Missionaries including Samuel Worchester are arrested when they refuse to obtain a license to reside by the recently passed Georgia Law. Later on in September they would be convicted and sentenced to four years in state prison. -
Trail of Tears
For hundreds of years, Indians lived in Georgia, Tennessee, north Carolina and Florida. But Americans kicked them out of their land and sent them to walk pass the Mississippi river to an Indian settlement. That walk was called the trail of tears because many died on the trip. -
Worcester Pardon
January 1833- Worchester Pardon= Samuel Worchester and his fellow missionaries who were imprisoned by the Georgia Law accept a pardon from the governor of Georgia and are later released from jail, Even though they had prevailed in their case before the Supreme Court the previous March. They refuse to pursue further litigation in fear that it will exacerbate a growing crisis between the states rights and nullification. -

Treaty of Fort Laramie 1851
Treaty of Fort Laramie 1851 The 1851 Fort Laramie Treaty defined territory for each tribal group in order to end intertribal rivalry and it allowed travelers and railroad workers on the Platte River Road. The Yanktonai, covered by an earlier 1825 treaty, were omitted from the treaty because their traditional areas were far removed from the overland route to the Pacific Coast which the treaty directed to safeguard. -
Comstock Lode of 1859
Comstock Lode 1859 The Comstock Lode is one of the most important discoveries in American history and it was discovered in W Nevada, on Mt. Davidson in the Virginia Range. It was the first major silver discovery in United States history. The total of ore taken out from the district, estimated that 57% was silver, yet it was a considerable gold camp, which made 47% percent of that metal. -
