    President Franklin Deleano Roosevelt made a daring move to challenge the tradition of the 8-year term. He ran for ta third term for he Democrats agianst the Republican candidate Wedell Wilkie. He won with an electoral vote of 449 to 82 and successfully won 38 out of 48 states.

    Germany Invades Soviet Union
    Germany invade the SOviet Union on June 22, 1941. This was a direct violation of the German-Soviet Pact. The destruction of the Soviet by miliitary force eliminated the threat of communism upon Germany.

    The Soviets launched a counteroffense agianst the Germans on December 6, 1941. The counter attack was so successful that it permenantly drove the Germans from the outskirts of Moskow.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Japan attacked the U.S. Naval base in Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on Decmber 7, 1941. 20 warships and 200 aircrafts were destroyed. 2,400 Americans were killed. America's biggest and most important battleship the USS Arizona was sunk. The defining quote of the attack on Pearl Harbor was "a date that will live in infamy." The U.S. joined the war and it officially became a world war.

    The British Royal Air Force launched a raid on Cologne with 1,000 bombers. This brought war to Germany's home front for the first time in the war.

    The French failed to prevent the Allies from occupying Morocco and Algeria. The fail to prevent the Allies caused a German occupation of the the collaborationist Vicy France.

    Germany aimed to capture Stalingrad and Baku as well as the Oil Caucasian Fields. The Germans stalled on both fronts throughout the summer. The Soviets launched a counter attack at Stalingrad and on February 2, 1943, the German Sixth Army surrendered.

    When the Italian military took over they negotiated a aurrender to the Anglo-American forces. German troops took control over the northern peninsula of Italy. Mussolni was arrested and thrown in jail, only to be busted out by Hitler.

    D-Day was part of Operation Overload. The Allies invaded the Normandy beach in France. D-Day's main goal was to liberate France. 150,000 troops landed in France and had it liberated by August.

    America invaded the Philippines on October 20. This battle was a successful attempt to reclaim the Philippines. America was helped by their former enemies, the insurrectos. While the insurrectos hated us, they hated Japan more, and decided to help us.

    The notorious death camp, Auschwitz, was liberated by Soviet troops on January 27th. This day is commemorated as the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

    The Big Three, Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin, met one last time to discuss post-war reorganization. The main purpose for this meeting was to discuss the re-establishment of the nations in war-torn Europe.

    Mussolini was the dictator of Italy, and ally of Hitler. On April 28th he died. Upon his death the people hung him upside down in a town and they would beat his body with sticks.

    This is the day when the Allied forces formally accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany. When the Nazi's finally surrendered, the war in Europe was officially over.

    This is the day that Japan surrendered. This marked the end of World War II. The ceremony was held in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri.
