Wilsonianism
Woodrow Wilson creates Wilsonianism to end the causes of war by eliminating the military and using "League of Nations". The League of Nations was to try to get all of the countries to get along and have world peace. Some countries liked this idea, others did not. -
Paris Peace
The "Big Four" negotiate the Paris Peace the Treaty of Versailles. This was signed by Wilson but not ratified by the Senate. The United States did not end up joining the Treaty of Versailles. -
Atlantic Charter
Roosevelt and the British Prime Minister agreed to eight different things to negotiate. The eight are no territorial gains, territorial adjustments must conform to the people involved, the people have the right to choose their government, trade barriers lowered, disarmament, must be freedom from want and fear, freedom of the seas, and association of nations. -
ANZUS Treaty
This treaty united the United States, Austraila, and New Zealand in defense pact. Britian was not included in this pact. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
CIA trained Cuban exiles invaded Cuba. They were caught and held captive. The United States and President Kennedy was embarassed. -
Berlin Wall
Soviets gave East Germany the control over East Berlin. In August, the wall was built dividing the east from west. This was to prevent people on the west escaping to the east. Familes and friends were seperated for years and shot and killed if caught trying to cross the wall. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The United States and the Soviet Union were very close to having started a nuclear war. Kennedy found out that the Soviets had missiles in Cuba and were working with the Soviets. Finally, Kennedy and the Soviets made a deal which was we would remove our missiles from Turkey if they would remove theirs from Cuba. -
Detente Policy
Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger try to gain their friendship with the Soviet Union and China. This was named the Detente Policy. -
9/11
On September 11 of 2001, the United States was under a terrorist attack. The World Trade Center had been hit by flying planes. This made the President more aware of Foreign Policies that needed to be put into place. -
India-United States Civil Nuclear Agreement
George Bush signs the United States-India Peaceful Atomic Energy Cooperation Act. The United States no longer opposes Indias Civilian and nucluar military programs. The relations between India and the United States improve.
