He was assassinated by Gavriolo Princip of Serbia. Because of european alliances his assassination started world war one. -
Beginning of WW1
World War I, also known as the First World War or the Great War, was a global war centered in Europe. The Austro-Hungarians declared war on Serbia and subsequently invaded. As Russia mobilised in support of Serbia, Germany invaded neutral Belgium and Luxembourg before moving towards France, leading Britain to declare war on Germany. -
German Proclamation
Germany said that all the waters around the British Isles were to be considered an official war zone and Germany would sink any ship that entered that area. -
Sinking of the Lusitania
A British passenger ship (sister ship to the titanic) was torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine killing more than 120 Americans. -
Sussex Pledge
Germany promises not to sink any more merchant ships without warning. They did not want the US to enter the war!!! -

Selective Service Act of 1917
The governement now has the power to draft soldiers. The act required all men in the US between the ages of 21 and 30 to register for the military service.
