Spanish Claiming Arizona
Franciscan friar Marcos de Niza reached the state of Arizona in 1539 and was the first person to set foot on Arizona land. After exploring Arizona, he later claimed it for Spain.

Slaves Forced to Immigrate to the US
This is an important date because this is the first day in history that African Americans had to immigrate to the US. They were slaves, so they were forced to be immigrated to Virgina.

Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was sent to Great Britian as a formal letter explaining why the new Americans didn't want to be a part of their government anymore. This was the frist step to making America actually become America. They could now make their own laws, rules, and policies and live their life they way they wanted it to be.

Naturalization Act
Any free white man would be granted citizenship given that they can renounce their alligence from their previous country, resided in the US, and behaved as a good man of character. Once they are granted their citizenship, all related children shall be granted citizenship whether they are born in or out of the US.

Alien and Sedetion Acts
Four bills were passed by John Adams stating that the American citizenship was based on residency. Instead of residing in the US fro 5 years, they would have to reside for 14 years in the US in order to recieve their American citizenship.

The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
This treaty ended the Mexican-American War by Mexico surrendering to the US. The Mexican-American war was a very stressful and after it was over, tension still remained. The tension is still present as of modern times.

Immigration Act of 1882
Any immigrant that landed on US ports were forced to pay a 50 cent fine. After paying, they would be examined to make sure they weren't sick and/or considered a "lunatic".

The Statue of Liberty
All American citizens know the Statue of Liberty as the symbol for democracy and freedom. Other people from countries across the Atlantic Ocean also see it that way which makes them want to immigrate over here. So, they hop on a boat and arrive in New York and the first thing they will see is the beautiful Statue of Liberty.

Mexican Revolution
President Porfirio Díaz treated the Mexicans with crulity and mistreatment which eventually led to those Mexicans fleeing Mexico and immigrating in the US, illegally.

Arizona Becomes a State
Arizona became the 48th state of the Unites States of America on Feburary 14, 1912.

US Border Patrol Establishment
The US border patrol was established to keep illegal immigration from happening. They patrol along the Mexican border and have added more officers to their line of duty since they have been established.

Barcero Program
During and after World War II, 4 million Mexican workers were allowed into the US in order to cover the shoratage of jobs due to the war.

The Refugee Act
The Refugee Act was created to provide a permanent and systematic procedure for the admission to the United States of refugees. Refugees are classified as non-immigrants.

Immigration Reform and Control Act
In the Act it required employers to vouch to their employees' immigration status, made it illegal to hire (knowingly) hire illegal immigrants, legalized certain seasonal agricultural illegal immigrants, and legalized the estimate of 3 million immigrants who were residing in the US before January 1, 1982 with correct documentations.

Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996
This law states that if an immigrant unlawfully living in the US for 180 days, but less than 365 days, they MUST stay out of the US for 3 years unless they obtain a pardon. If they return without one, the MUST stay out of the US for 10 years. If they are banned for 10 years, then they are uneligible for a waiver.

SB 1070
The Arizona Senate Bill (SB 1070) is an Act that is very strict with how long a Mexican immigrant can stay in the US. If over the age of 14, are in the US over 30 days, and have no documentation, they can and will be tried for a federal misdemeanor crime.

DREAM Act
After this past election, the DREAM Act was passed by only 12 states. The DREAM Act is a bill that gave conditional residency to undocumented citizens with good morals and behavior. For example, high school graduates, arrived in the US as minors, and lived in the US for five years prior to the bill's enactment.
