Immigration
The idea of Immigration was not forigen to Americans (well Native Americans that is). Immigration hit its peak between 1880-1900, the influx of Irish, German, and Italian people to America was gigantic. Platt Amendment of 1901
The Platt Amendment of 1901 stated that Cuba was forbidden to enter a treaty that might assault their independence, also to prevent Europeans coming to Cuba. They were also banned from having a large amount of debt, and if any of these rules were broken Cuba would allow American troops to come in and restore the country.

Imperialism is the idea that a country expands its power across the board, and to have influence on other countries around them. Imperialism was shown in the US by the Spanish - American Wars over Cuba, and America's deal with Hawaii, which America would soon conquer.

The Sinking of Lusitania
The Sinking of the Lusitania was the doings of Germany. Germany had taken out ads in American newspapers waring Americans that if they go onto American ships they will sink them. So when the Lusitania departed from New York the Germans attacked, they believed that the large vessel was carrying ammunition. In which it was carrying ammunition.

Selective Service Act
The Selective Service Act was created to increase the amount of soldiers in the war. All males from 21 - 30 had to sign up for some form of the military, the draft when it was previously used ended up in riots, because the wealthy could buy out of it. But this time it was mandatory.

Prohibition
In the eighteenth amendment the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcohol was banned from America. Conservative people rejoiced, they thought it would make America holier in gods eyes. They thought work production would go up, families would be happier, and crime would decrease, but that was the exact opposite of what happened. For a while drinking decreased, but after a while people started to make bootleg alcohol, rejecting the law

Militarism
When you think of a country that prided itself on its military, you'll think of Germany and the US, which are both correct answers. Militarism is described as the strong belief that a government should put the majority of their focus into their military. Today the US is a good example of this, we still pride ourselves off of our military and they strength that it holds.

Social Security Act
The Social Security Act of 1935 was to help the retirees of companies live a nice life without having to work. They decided to take a little bit out of the younger workers pay checks and put it into a fund to support the retired workers. The deduction was mandatory. Social Security is still around today, although it doesn't give people the stable life like it used to, it helps people get by.

Fascism
Although Fascism was not in America, it was going on in countries around America, which effected WWII greatly. Fascism is described as, a governmental society lead by a dictator who has all of the power. One of the most famous fascist states was Germany, led by Adolf Hitler. Fascism and Communism seem similar but are on completely different ends of the spectrum.

The Declaration of the United Nations
the Declaration of the United Nations was when the UN was born. 26 members came all around the world for one common goal, to protect the human race. Today there are over 190 members all from different countries around the world. The location of the UN is in New York City, where there is a large hall where the members come and meet about important issues in our world today.

The Korean War
The Korean War was between North and South Korea, they fought over which governmental system was better, Communism or Democracy. North Korea was supported by the USSR and China, and South Korea was supported by the US, UK, and France. It was a puppet war for the US and the USSR to fight their own problems out, without the cost of their peoples lives.

Brown vs The Board of Education of Topeka
In 1954, the Supreme Court of Topeka, Kansas deemed that a segregation of schools was not correct. This was a huge stepping stone for the Civil Rights movement that was happening in America. This was one of the first steps to desegregation. It made it clear to the world that schools were going to have to integrate sooner or later.

When the Feminist Movement was going on the word Sexism was created. Sexism is defined as "prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of gender." Trickle Down Economics
The idea of Trickle Down Economics was a product from Reaganomics. President Reagan decided to cut 30% of taxes from wealthy Americans. He thought that having a tax relief on the wealthy would make them spend and invest more, creating more jobs because of the higher demands for goods. In all this idea was liked and disliked by many Americans.

The creation of the world wide web was a revolutionary thing for everyone today. Back when it was first created, the things you could do with it were very limited, but now you can literally do anything! It allows people to keep in touch from halfway across the world. The Creation of NAFTA
NAFTA stands for the North American Free Trade Agreement. NAFTA was created to help create easier trade for America with other countries around the world, they wanted to lower tariffs and economic barriers with other countries. The Monica Lewinsky Scandal
The Monica Lewinsky scandal is probably one of the most famous scandals in American Political History. A 21 year-old intern, Monica Lewinsky, working at the White House, had an affair with Bill Clinton. The scandal didn't only hurt Clinton's family, but his character too. He committed adultery and no one in their right mind would be okay with that. From then on he was known as a womanizer and a pig, and Lewinsky's career was ruined
