  • Proclamation of Neutrality

    President George Washington proclaimed it in order to keep us from getting in the middle of the conflict between France and Great Britain, which were the two warring nations.

The French foreign minister sent three agents (designated “X,” “Y,” and “Z” by Americans) to demand a payment of money from the Americans before French officials would agree to meet with them, which infuriated Americans

  • Louisiana Purchase

    The British had taken on the nasty habit of taking American sailors off of their ships and forcing them into British Navy service. American leaders did not like this and began to call for war against Great Britain in order to stop this practice. The fighting was right here in our country. The White House was even burned to the ground during this war!

    Peace treaty to end the War of 1812. Both sides did no receive any gains. It made each side go back to the territory it had possessed before the beginning of the war and said nothing about impressments.

  • Monroe Doctrine

    Tells the world "hands off Western Hemisphere". It stated that the U.S. would not tolerate European invasion and that the United States was no longer open for colonization.
