  • The Proclamation of Neutrality

    This was the policy of the United States regarding the war that was spreading in Europe. George Washington ordered that the United States will remain neutral in all conflicts.
  • XYZ Affair

    This was an event that raised tensions between France and the US. This resulted in a small and undeclared war known as the Quasi-War.
  • The Convention of 1800

    This was the event that ended the Quasi-War. France returned captured American ships and America agreed to compensate for damages.
  • The Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana purchase was the event of Thomas Jefferson purchasing almost a million square miles of land. The purchases was 15 million dollars and purchased from Napoleon.
  • Embargo Act

    This was an act passed under Thomas Jefferson's presidency that prohibited American ships from trading in all foreign ports. This was to demonstrate America's dependence on its own goods.
  • The War of 1812

    This was a war fought between Great Britain and America. The war was fought because of Britain violating Americas maritime rights.
  • The Treaty of Ghent

    This was the peace treaty that ended the War of 1812. The treaty didn't take effect until 1815 and it returned everything to the way it was.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    This was the policy that President James Monroe put out stating that the Americas are no longer up for colonization. It also stated that foreign countries will not interfere with any independent American governments.
