Louisiana Purchase of 1803
The Louisiana Purchase of 1803 gave legal rights for the United States to own New Orleans in the Southern part of the country to modern day Minnesota. This meant that the land purchased in this event stretched from different parts of the country including a portion of the Dakotas and Montana. In fact, all this was bought by the President Thomas Jefferson for 15 million dollars from Napoleon. -

The Lewis and Clark Expedition
After the Louisiana Purchase, President Thomas Jefferson sent military troops to explore the new territory that was sold by Napoleon to the U.S. with Meriwether Lewis and a lieutenant called William Clark as leaders. This expedition took two years to accomplish.

Embargo Act of 1807
The Embargo Act of 1807 made it possible for Thomas Jefferson to close all American ports to foreign trade. He made this action with the idea of appearing neutral with other countries with the hope of avoiding war. However, many Americans disagreed with this act. -

The Treaty of Ghent ended the War of 1812 when both, the British representatives and American representatives, signed the treaty. According to this treaty, border lines were set and all the conquered territory had to be returned to its original owner. -

The Indian removal Act of 1830
The Indian Removal Act of 1830 by President Andrew Jackson was created with the purpose of exchanging the land that the American Indians owned in the east of Mississippi to the western part of the country. This event gave rise to the Trail of Tears of 1836, which was the catastrophic event in which many American Indians died when walking to their assigned land in the West of the country.

On May the 14th of the year of 1836, the Treaty of Velasco was created to end the Texas Revolution. -
The Trail of Tears
The Trail of Tears took place when the Cherokee tribe was forced to walk from their land in the east of Mississippi to the West by orders from president Martin Van Buren. Many died along the way.
