Germany attacks Russia
In June of 1941, Germany attacked Russia. They used 3 armies, one was sent north, one east, and one south. Germans overtook many parts of Russia, but Hitler wasnt done. Hitler focused on the Caucasus Oil Fields and Stalingrad next, and refused to let his armies surrender. -
Develop Europe First Strategy
FDR, Churchill, and Stalin decided that Germany was their biggest threat. Hitler's plan was in full swing, and he needed to be stopped. the Big 3 decided that the pacific would be secondary, insinuating that they weren't as big of a threat. This tactic turned out to be very profitable for the allies, resulting in many key victories. -
Germany's defeat
in 1943, Churchill and FDR decided that only Unconditional Surrender would be accepted in Germany. This meant that there would be no negotiations on their part, and that the Allies would decide what the fate of Germany would be. Eventually, US and Britain would send more troops to help the Soviets, who had done most of the fighting. This would put the final nails in Germany's Coffin. -
Operation Overlord
Operation involved landing 21 American divisions and 26 British, Polish, and Canadian divisions on a 50-mile stretch beaches in Normandy, France. This was one of our more risky moves, but it fufilled its purpose. -
Deception plan
The plan was simple, to create a fake army which only existed on paper, and make the Germans think that we were going to attack from that point, when they really were going to attack in almost the exact opposite direction. Created card-board tanks, broken ships painted to look new, etc. -
D-Day
The day that all of the allies combined forces, were to attack Germany. This included 11,000 planes, who would attempt to weaken the Germans by bombing them repeatedly, not to mention the thousands of soldiers and landing craft that would follow. -
Hitler assasination attempt gone wrong
On this date, Colonel Claus Von Stauffenberg attempted to assasinate hitler. He planted a bomb in a room where Hitler was going to be having a meeting, but due to the extreme heat of the day, the meeting was moved to a small building outdoors, where the explosion was not as effective. The assassin took poison to avoid being put on trial. -
Battle of the Bulge
In December 1944, Hitler ordered a counter-attack, which was later named "the Battle of the Bulge". On December 23, the Allies began bombing Germany and began to steadily push them out of France. The last ditch effort by the Germans to stand their ground had failed. -
Mussolinni Is Captured
The Americans push through Italy on their way to Berlin. Mussolini tries to escape with some soldiers, but they are stopped. Mussolini makes one of the soldiers switch Jackets with him, because his was a higher ranking Jacket, but someone noticed that Mussolinni had General's pants on, and Mussolinni and his wife were mutilated and hanged. -
Hitler Dies
This day, Hitler kills himself, his wife, and their 2 dogs. By this point, Hitler has parkinsons and many other diseases causing him to behave irrationally and move jerkilly. After they are dead, he has some of the people take his and his wife's bodies outside and burn them. The Americans arrive later to find the Burned bodies, and no one else to be found. Stalin would keep what he believed to be Hitler's skull, until his death in 1953. The skull would later be disproved.
