United States History Class Timeline 2015-16

  • Slavery

    Slavery started by the 1600’s with the idea of one person being owned by another. These people were forced to do work for little or no pay.
  • Start of Public Schools

    A time when segragation in school was no longer. This started a new objective and game oppertunity to many children.
  • The Boston Massacre

  • The 1st American Flag

    The American Flag was a symbol of our freedom. It was made by Betsey Ross and had 13 stripes and 13 stars to represent the colonies.
  • The declaration of independance

    The declaration of independence was a document written by Thomas Jefferson declaring their separation from Britain.
  • The Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana Purchase
    The Louisiana Purchse is when President Jefferson bought 827,000 square miles of land for about 6 cents per mile. This doubled the size of the nationa and gave the United States complete acess to the Mississippi River.
  • The Alamo

    The Alamo
    On this date, the Texans rebelled against the Mexican government and fought for its own freedom. Mexicans had many laws that people did not want to follow and eventually causing the people to rebel (Holt-Mcdougal, Page 426).
  • The Donner Party

    The Donner Party
    A group of Pioneers heading out West took a shortcut actually adding many days onto their trip. Later, they got snowed in and resorted to canibalism (History.com).
  • The California Gold Rush

    The California Gold Rush
    The California Gold Rush was a time when many tried to take the long trip to California to get rich. The only people who ended up making money were the merchants in the area.
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    Fugitive Slave Act
    The Fugitive Slave Act was a bill in the compromise of 1850 stating that African Americans can be caught at any time without a trial. It also stated that runaway slaves could be recaptured and if they refuse, then there will be a penalty. This act eventally caused more people to join the abolitionist movement.   • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    The primary source states many of the white's feelings about the colored people and the horrors of slavery. This caused many people to join the abolitionists movement. (page 485, McDougal Little)
  • Harpers Ferry

    Harpers Ferry
    This was an event where John Brown went into Harpers Ferry, Virginia, trying to capture the weapons in the U.S. arsenal and hoping to start an uprise with slavery. This even eventually caused tensions to rise even more and people to honor him in the North, but enraged people in the South. (page 497, McDougal Little)
  • The Attack on Fort Sumter

    Fort Sumter was a hideout for U.S. army until found. It was then known for the first couple fires in the Civil War.
  • First soccer tournaments (world cup)

    Even though the first world cup didn’t go as planned, the idea caught on and eventually made it to the Olympics.
  • Start of Death Camps

    A time where Hitler killed many people for their background. He felt he was cleasning mankind.
  • Brown vs The Board of Education

    Many people voted for no segragation, causing it to be illegal in 1954
  • Death of Elves

    A rock and roll star died believed to be from an overdose of drugs.
  • September 11th (9/11)

    4 Planes were hijacked and crashed into both towers part of the World Trading Center, the Pentagon, and into a field. The buildings collapsed and killed about 2,500 people.
  • My Birthday

    The day the world became a better place.
  • Florida Georgia Line's first album

    A country band wrote their first album and started becoming popular.
  • The Trail of Tears (Indian Removal Act)

    The Trail of Tears (Indian Removal Act)
    The Indian Removal Act was made by President Jackson ordering all Native Americans to move West. President Jackson wanted this land open becuase it was in the middle of the United States. Jackson refused to stop even after the supreme court decided in favor of the Indians.
