Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a devastating event when colonists and soldiers were harassing one another. This lead to british soldiers opening fire on the colonists. With those onniocent lives being taken, it feuled anti british feelings in the colonies. -
The Boston Tea Party
On December 16, 1773, Abigail Adams, the wife of John Adams reported the colonists were preparing to protest about the tea arriving. 342 chests of tea arrived at the Boston Harbor, but then were thrown back into the Harbor water by colonists diguised as Mohawks. -
The Declaration of Independence.
On July 4th, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed. Thomas jefferson wrote up this document to throughly say America is no longer dependent on England. -
The Louisianna Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was made on April 30th, 1803 by President Thomas Jefferson who purchased the Louisiana Territory from France. This purchase doubled the size of the Nation and gave the colonies access to the Mississippi River. Jefferson Paid 15,000,000$ in all, bringing about 3 cents an acre. -
Donner Party
The spring of 1846, the Donner party joined a group of 90 emigrants leaving Springfield Illinois to be a part of the western movement. On the way there they dared to take a supposedly shorter path into mountians causing them to be stranded in subzero weather with no food; this lead to the cannibalism which makes them famous today. -
Californa Gold Rush
On January 24, 1848 James Marshall was building a sawmill in northern Californa, he discovered gold in a river nearby. Marshall then caused one of the biggest migrations in the United States history. -
Attack on Fort Sumter
On April 12, 1861, confederate soldiers opened fire on Fort Sumter. After 34 hours of trying to protect the fort Robert Anderson made the choice to surrender. This attack fueled a fire and led to the begining of the Civil War. -
The Homestead Act
In 1862, congress passed the homestead act to help move more people out west. Many people took advantage of this act. In exchange for 160 acers the new homesteaders had to live on the prooperty for five years and farm the land. In years after the act was moved over 40,000 African Americans moved to Kansas for the benefits of the act. -
The Influenza Epidemic
In early March of 1918, the Influenza Epidemic broke loose. 18 cases of the flu were reported in Haskell, Kansas when the flu was just starting to spread. Influenza is a contagious and extremely deadly virus that killed over 30 million people during the epidemic. -
The Social Security Act
On August 14th, 1935, The Social Security Act was passed. This act helped older men and women have finacial stability during retirement. The retirement money comes from a tax off every pay check you are given to add up so when you hit retirement age you may live of that tax money. -
Brown Vs. the Board of Education
In May, of 1954, school segregation cases joined together to fight against the board of education for black rights. Many joined up for the black communtiy to fight for the right to go higher education facilities such as high school and college. This event was one of the starting points for equality for African Americans. -
The Death of the King
Elvis Presely lived a life in the lime light of rock and roll.Elvis endured a heart attack caused by his addiction to drugs. His death was a tragic event because the world lost the King of rock and roll. -
Attack on the Twin Towers
On September 11, 2001, four airline planes were taken over by terrorists and flown into the Twin Towers in New York City. 2500 people died in the attack and collapse of the towers. In the same day, the pentagon was attacked with one of the four planes taken over. -
