United States History Class Timeline 2015-16

  • The Boston Massacare

    Colonists and British were harrasing each other. The British soldiers opened fire, killing colonists. In the weeks that followed, anti-British propaganda. This led to the Revolutionary War.
  • The Declaration of Independance

    The colonies wished to be free of British rule. They had been ignored. There was a strong British troop presence. Therefore, they wrote the Declaration of Independance. This led to the Revolutionary War.
  • The Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana Purchase
    In 1802, Spain closed New Orleans to American Trade before turning the territory over to France. Colonists called for war againt Spain and France. To keep peace, Jefferson offered to buy New Orleans. Napoleon offered if he would like to buy the entire Louisiana Territory. This was likely due to a revolt in Hati that resulted in diasasterous losses for the French. Soon, the purchase for the Louisiana Territory for $15 million (3 cents per acre). This doubled the size of America.
  • The Lewis and Clark Journey

    The Lewis and Clark Journey
    This is one date during the Lewis and Clark Journey. Merriweather Lewis and William Clark left in the sumer of 1803. Clark made maps that would guide future travellers. Lewis marked down animals and plants unknown to European science. They explored territory that would later be called home for settlers. This helped America grow in various ways.
  • The California Gold Rush

    The California Gold Rush
    It started on this date when James Marshall found gold in California, which had became a part of the United States the previous year. People from the United States, as well as people from other countries, came hoping to strike it rich. These people became known as the forty-niners. This rush boosted California's economy. Must did not get rich. It opened new pathes for travel. It also led to the settlement of California.
  • The Battle at Fort Sumter

    Fort Sumter was a Union Fort in Charleston, South Carolina. When the South seceded from the Union, they took over federal forts. They attacked Fort Sumter. This lead to the American Civil War.
  • Pearl Harbor

    The Japenese, a part of the "Axis of Evil" which included Nazi Germany and Italy, bombed Pearl Harbor, an American harbor at Hawaii. Many men died. Noted as "a day that would live on in infamy," this led to America joining on the Allied side of the war, which included Great Britain, Russia and France.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    D-Day has begun! Allied landings at the Normandy beaches of Omaha, Sword, Gold, Utah and Juno. This leads to the liberation of France and the fall of Nazi Germany. Its considered the "greatest water assualt of all time." The Americans, British and Canadians had been practicing for a long time at Britain. They also set up a "dummy army" to fool the Axis, which took defenses away from the real landing point. Upon landing, they faced dangers like drowning, MG42 fire, artillery and land mines.
  • 9/11

    Terrorists hijacked four planes. Three of them crashed into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. One attempted to crash into the White House, but was foilded by the passengers. This led to the war in Iraq.
  • My Birthday

    This was the day I was born. The day when I, possibly the biggest dinosaur nerd, was born. This may be a normal day to most, but it is important to me.
