The Years of the Revolutionary War
These were the years of the American Revolutionary War. This was when the continental congress first met and declared war on the British. The war officially ended when the Declaration of Independence was signed. The American Rebels fought off the greatest world power of the time. -
The Signing of the Declaration of Independence
On this date the Declaration of Independence was signed by all of the members of congress. Some of the people that signed include John Hancock, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. With this document we Declared Freedom from Britain. -
Ratification of the Constitution
It took 2 years but we finally got this document that still lets our government function today with it's intricate system of checks and balance. Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Maryland, South Carolina, Virginia, and New York all had their representatives in congress and were all of the states that were needed to sign it for it to be law. -
The Louisiana Purchase
On this date, Thomas Jefferson made the Louisiana purchase. When the Louisiana purchase was made, it doubled the size of the United States of America. Thomas Jefferson originally just wanted New Orleans and Napolean offered all of the Louisiana Territory. Lewis and Clark Journey
In the Summer of 1803, Lewis and Clark went to explore the Louisiana Territory. Thomas Jefferson had told them to look for a water route accros the continent. Nat Turners Slave Rebellion
In this year, Nat Turner led a Slave rebellion. Him and a group of his followers killed 55 white virginians. This is recorded as the bloodiest slave rebellion in history. After Turner was caught, he was tried and hanged. McDougal Littel American History pg. 376 -
The Texas Rebelion
Sometime in this year, the war was officially thought about because of the jailing of a Texan named Austin for saying in a letter that was discovered, if his demands weren't met, then he would support breaking away from mexico. The Texans saw him as a martyr and it made them angry about his imprisonment and ready to rebel. They declared Texas a free state from Mexico and fought for Texas and won. The most famous battle was perhaps the one at the Alamo. -
The Donner Party
This was the date that the Donner Party left from Illinois on the trip west. They were delayed by a broken axle and a severely cut hand. They made through one of the most major parts of the journey. After this part, they sent men ahead to get supplies. When they reched the peak of one of the mountains, the first snow fell. It was 5 feet deep. A man named James Marshall found gold in this year and caused the California Gold rush. Many people moved out to California for the gold. More merchants made their fortunes than the miners did. Uncle Tom's Cabin
This Book was a book written about the cruelty and immorality of slavery. It was published in this year by Harriet Beecher Stowe. The southerers tended to think that the book gave a false representation to slavery. McDougal Littel American History pg. 503 & 485 -
The Raid on Harpers Ferry
John Brown wanted to provoke a slave uprising. His plan to do so was to capture the weapons at the U.S. arsenal at Harpers Ferry, VA. On this date, John Brown and 18 followers captured the Harpers Ferry arsenal. John Brown sent out the word but no slaves came to his aide. The U.S. Marines were sent in and they retook the arsenal. The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
On this date, the famous actor John Wilkes Booth, who was also a confederate sympathizer shot Abraham Lincoln in the head. He was shot when attending a play at Ford's theater. It happened 5 days after the General Robert E. Lee lost a major area in the south effectively ending the civil war. -

In the morning on this date, also called Black Thursday the stock market plummeted. Since so many people had invested during the bull market there was absolute chaos. Everyone that had invested heavily in the stock market were selling stocks and watching as the drop in the stock market lost them money. Four days after that the stock market fell again. -

Attack on Pearl Harbor
On this date Japanese bombed the military base in Hawaii to prevent our navy from helping their enemies; getting the united states into world war 2 against Germany, Italy, Japan, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. After the first two hours of the bombing, 2400 Americans had died, 188 airplanes had been destroyed and 21 ships had been destroyed. -
The Bombing of Hiroshima
On this date at 2:45 a.m. a B-29 bomber was launched off of a north pacific island in the Mariana's, the huge plane manned by a 12 man crew to make sure that everything went according to the plan. A huge ten foot atomic bomb was mounted in the planes bomb bay, its nickname was little boy. The first target was Hiroshima and it was having clear weather that day and the bomb fell. Many people in the city were disfigured. 140,000 people died on that day. -

President Truman went to war in Korea because he felt that it would be the cause of the spread of communism. Then the people fighting in Korea, more specifically the countries decided that the war needed to stop so it did. One part of the war is that the Russians and the Americans didn't want to have a so-called hot war over nuclear weapons. The North Koreans decided to stop also. The war never really ended anyway, there was just a cease-fire. -
The March on Washington and the I have a dream speech from Martin Luther king
The "I have a dream" speech given by Martin Luther King JR. and march on Washington were very influential to congress in passing the civil rights acts of the 1960's. There were many celebrities of the time there and they talked and sang and all that. No one wanted to go last but Dr. Martin Luther King Junior did and gave his speech and even deviated from his written speech and no one left. -

We went to the war in Vietnam to really just stop the spread of communism. The president at this time just wanted to help the anti-communist side to establish it's defences after the French withdrew. The government quickly lost their support for this war because the people in the United States thought of this war as a no win situation. This became the benchmark for what not to do in wars. -

On the day of its tenth launch into space the challenger exploded 73 seconds after liftoff. The explosion killed 7 crew members. The tempuratures dipped below freezing on that day and the NASA contractors worried about the integrity of the seals on the space shuttles boosters. The space shuttle launched at 11:38 am. -
