    In 1803 Jefferson, the president of the time, made a ppurchace that would change America and it's history forever. At this time France owned the louisiana territory. Americans were angry that they ere not aluod to use the port attached to the mississippi river for transporting goods in the country. Jefferson offered to by just the port but then France came back with the offer to sell the hole territory. Jefferson took the offer even though the Constitution said nothing about the Pres buying land

    Lewis and Clark journey

    After Jefferson purchaced the Louisiana territory so he hired Meriwether Lewis and William clark to go on a journey to explore the new territory. The were told to right down maps, plants, animals, and terrian. They made it to the pacific ocean and back in 2 and a half years.
  • Nat Turners slavery rebellion

    Nat Turners slavery rebellion
    Nat turner led the most famous slave rebellion. Nat and 70 other slaves killed 55 whites. Most of his men were captured and hung once the ammo ran out. Nat was later captured, tried and hung.(McDougal littell)

    At the time of 1835, Texas was still tecnically part of Mexico. Twxas wanted to be it's own free country. In 1835, the president of Mexico decided to overthrow the Constitution and become a dictator. He sent some soldiers in for a sneek attack. The texans faut back and made the mexicans leave. The war went on for a year and a half before Texas wins their independance(history.com).

    In the spring of 1846, a group of nearly 90 emigrants left Springfield, Illinois, and headed west. They came to a split in the path that was supposed to cut time off the trip but actually adds 100 miles to the trip. They got stoped due to a broken axle and were stranded. They ran out of food and had to turn to canibalisim when one died (history.com).

    In April of 1846 a unit of soldiers from mexico crossed the Rio Grende. They ambushed a patrol of Americans. Americans had mixed reactions about the war. The north didn't want to expand because of being able to have more slavery. the south however wanted to expand because they could have more room for slaves(Mcdougal Littell, 435)

    In Jan. of 1848 a carpenter named James marshall discovered gold in the river in California. Thousands from all over the world came in looking of striking it rich. Thousands went and many found gold but in small amounts. The rush peaked in 1852(Mcdougal/Littell).

    The Fugitive Slave Act law accused "fugitives could be held without an arrest warrant. They had no right to a trial, and instead a federal commisioner would rule each case." Many southerners backed this act because slaves were concidered property. Northerns were enraged because people who did not back up the act gould get pennelized. it requires them to capture runaway slaves. in the longrun many disobayed the law.(McDougal littell)

    In 1859 an abolinisionist named john brown and his five sons captured the harpers ferry arsenal. They planed to defeat the southerners in a hope to stop slavery. John brown was captured and sentanced to a hanging.(McDougal littell)
