In 43 AD the Romans took most of Britain from the Celts who lived there. Scotland and its people wer too wild, so the Romans buist a ig wall to protect themselves.

Germanic tribes conquered England

After the Romans had left, Germanic tribes conquered England, The Saxons were the most successful of them, but the An gles gave "England" its name: It means "Land of the Angels

King Harold Conquered England

1066

William, Duke of Nomandy, defeated the Saxon King Harold and conquered England

The Magna Carta

King John had to sign the Magna Carta. This made the law stronger and the king weaker. Perhaps you already know King John from the Robin Hood stories.

Queen Elizabeth 1

When Elizabeth 1 was queen, England became rich and powerful and started to colonise North AAmerica. This was also the age of great British art - for example the poet William Shakespeare
