Jamestown
The Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery set sail late December of 1606 and landed in the new world in late April 1607. The Virginia Company had lied to these people and told them that there was gold in the new world, when really there wasn't. The leader of this settlement was Captain John Smith.The people went thorugh a starving time where lots of people died, but new settlers saved them from starving. Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement. -
Plymouth Colony
The pilgrims traveled over to the New World on the Mayflower and landed on Plymouth Rock in November of 1620. William Bradford was the leader of the settlement. Samoset and Squanto were two of the Indians that helped the pilgrims learn how to grow different foods. This colony was later merged with Massachusets Bay colony in 1691. -
New York
This colony was originally owned by the Dutch. It was called New Amsterdam. They assigned Peter Minuit as the governor of the colony. -
Massachusetts Bay Colony
A group of ships sailed from Engalnd starting in April of 1630. These ships carried John Winthrop and his charter over to Massachusetts. For the next ten years mroe than 10,000 people came over which was later called the Great Migration. -
New Hampshire
Captain John Mason was the proprietor of the settlement of New Hampshire. Mason was the governor of Hampshire, England which is how the colony got its name. -
Maryland
This colony was founded by Lord Baltimore so that Catholics could escape religious persecution. In Europe, Protestants were killing Catholics so in order to protect them, Lord Baltimore gave his land to protect them. -
Connecticut
This colony was founded by Thomas Hooker once he was kicked out of Massachusetts for his beliefs in the separation of church and state. Once he founded Connecticut, he wrote the Fundamental Ordrers of Connecticut. -
Rhode Island
This colony was formed by Roger Williams when he was kicked out of Massachusetts along with Thomas Hooker and Ann Hutchinson. Ann founded Portsmith, Rhode Island. Williams was kicked off because of his beliefs in the separation of church and state. -
Delaware
Delaware Colony in the North American Middle Colonies was a region of Pennsylvania although it was never legally a separate colony. From 1682 to 1776 it was part of the Penn proprietorship. People give credit to Peter Minuit to finding it. -

The rich people got all of the poor people to go and make a foundation for South Carolina so the rich people could go and live there. -
New Jersey
Lord Berkley was getting annoyed with the conseqences of owning New Jersey so he sold it for 5,000 dollars. The new owners were John Fenwick and Edward Byllinge, two Quakers. They started the colonization of New Jersey. -
Pennsylvania
William Penn was one of the most prominent Quakers in England. He founded Pennsylvania so that Quakers could escape reliagious persecution. -
Georgia
This colony was founded in 1732 by James Oglethorpe. It was a debtors prison.
