Nazi Germany Invaded Poland

This was an invasion of poland when Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union invaded them. This is also known as the September Campaign.

Sitzkrieg

This is also known as the Phoney War. It is the eight month period at the start of the war where there was no fighting in the western front.

France Fell to Germany

When France fell it was split and Germany got the north and west and Italy got a small part of the south. Germans forces invaded France and this caused the French resistance to fall.

Battle of Britain

This is the defence of the Royal Air Force against the German Air Force at the beginning of the war.

Destroyers-for-Bases Deal

This was an agreement between the US and the UK where the US gave the UK navy destroyers and the UK gave the US land rights.

America First Committee Launched

This was one of the largest anti-war committees in the US. They had over 800,000 members. It was dissolved after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Congress Instituted the Draft

The Burke-Wadsworth Act was passed for the draft. There were 20 million eligible young men but half of them were turned down in the first year.
