    Mansa Musa became king

    Mansa Musa is one of the most famous kings in Africa. He was devoted to promoting his religion. He was significant because he created the haji.

    The haji

    Mansa Musa created the haji. The haji was a great pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca. The journey was more than 2,800 miles ling and he brought a ton of gold and people with him.

  • Mar 13, 1400

    Timbuktu

    Mansa Musa returned from the haji refreshed and he was determined to make the kingdom a better place. he transformed Timbuktu into a center for trade and learning. It became to be known as The Pearl of Africa.

  • Mar 13, 1500

    Timbuktu's downfall

    After Mansa Musa Mali was ruled by a series of weak rulers. The power eventually faded and trade routes shifted. The people of Mali rebelled and invaders attacked Timbuktu. It eventually ended up as a small collections of towns.

  • Songhai's and Morocco's trade dispute

    A Moroccan army crossed the desert carrying many weapons, especially gunpowder and cannons. The Songhai fought with spears and shields fled when the Moroccan started firing. This attack crippled Songhai and they never regained their glory.
