Estates-General Created by King Louis XVI
The Estates-General was created to separate the public into 3 different groups by their social class in society. The 3 groups consisted of the clergy, who were in-charge of all the churches, the nobility were the rich people of the land, and the commoners were the majority of society with the least amount of power. These holdings would decide how the new taxes would be levied and make new laws. -
Tennis Court Oath
The Tennis Court Oath was a very important part and what set off the French Revolution. The oath really showed the negatives and problems that the government had. In the oath it stated that they would never separate and leave until the constitution was established with everyone agreeing. -
Storming of Bastille
The Storming of Bastille was the turning point of the revolution. The public attempted to storm and take control of the armory and castle. This showed to the government that with a forceful group of people can challenge a monarchy and possibly overtake it. -
Declaration of Rights of a Man
The Declaration of Rights of a Man was a document written by Marquis de Lafayette. This document proved that all men had equal rights and were free born in France. They thought this would help change minds of the French Government. -
Women's March on Versailles
In the Womens March of Versailles, many Parisian women walked 12 miles to the Palace of Versailles to let the king know how they felt. They wanted the king to end the nationwide food shortage and have the king return back to Paris with his family. The king got mobbed by the women after he told them to have some cake. -
Flight to Vareness
The flight to Varennes is King Louis XVI attempt to escape and flee France with his family. He knew his time of ruling France was coming to an end, so he was trying to go back to his wife's homeland. After he was caught trying to flee, he was known as a trader and many people wanted him out immediately. -

The Declaration of Pillnitz was made after King Louis XVI was caught trying to flee France. They made this by using European powers to re-unite and restore the monarchy of France. With these powers, they made King Louis XVI have less power in the monarchy. -
France declares war on Austria
France declared war on Austria because of the want to have more political power and land in Europe. When King Louis XVI was finally kicked out of the monarchy many nations were worried this would happen to them leading to a war of fear. France won both of the wars. -
Storming of the Tuileries Palace
The Tuileries Palace was owned by King Louis XVI and was stormed in August of 1792. This was a very crucial moment in the French Revolution because the people wanted to depose the king and abolish the monarchy. Many Swiss guards and people were killed in the massacre. -
Abolition of the Monarchy into French Republic
The abolition of the monarchy all happened because of the National Assembly. They declared that France will no longer have a monarchy and declared the First Republic. This was so great for the economy to be able to have equality between the classes of people. -
Execution of King Louis XVI
The execution was the official ending of the monarchy of France. King Louis XVI was out at last, and this was the inauguration of the First Republic. He was the last king to live in the Palace of Versailles, and was given the nickname "Louis the Last" -
Establishment of the Committee of Public Safety
The Committee of Public Safety was created to protect France from its foreign and domestic enemies. This protected the peace of the French Revolution from any outbreaks of war, and failing economy. Many harsh measures were taken against the foreign nations. -
Beginning of the Reign of Terror
The Reign of Terror was all started by the lack of protection from the Public Safety. Many people were fighting out on the streets with nobody to stop them. Frances government ordered many people to be arrested during this time. -
Fall of Robespierre
Maximellon Robespierre was the leader of the Reign of Terror. He was overthrown and arrested by the French National Convention. He was mobbed by many people and wounded by a gunshot. -
Adoption of the Constitution of the Year III
The Constitution of the Year III was the new and updated version of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. They still included all of the Rights of the Man and Citizen, but it became the preamble of the new constitution. All the new updates and policies on taxes, and rights were all included in the constitution as well. -
Formation of the Directory
The Directory was formed by the French National Convention. This was a two house system with a five man committee called the Directory. Having this system would help make equal votes throughout the government system. It had some failures because of the lack of funding, many people would try to have too much power and, corruption was found in it as well. -
Napoleon's rise to Power
Napoleon was a very important figure in French History. He was a very intelligent military officer a for France. He and many of his supporters went and over-through the Directory to create the French Consulate. Napoleon created this type of government to make a more of a centralized government. -

Napoleon Bonaparte was one of the greatest emperors to lead France. He gained control of the revolutionary wars and had much military glory during his ruling. With his victory over the royalists he became many peoples hero in France. -
Battle of Waterloo
The Battle of Waterloo was fought between Napoleon's French Army and a coalition led by the Duke of Wellington. This was a long going war that has been going on for 23 years. This war ended Frances attempt to take over Europe, and Napoleon's long lasting power. -
Restoration of King Louis XVII
King Louis XVII, the brother of King Louis XVI, was now held the throne in France. During his time in the throne he promised a constitutional monarchy, dual parliament, religious toleration, and many rights for the citizens. He did do many of these things, bringing the economy back to normal.
