    In 1902 miners didn't believe they were being payed enough for there amount of hours they worked. Strikes took place but Roosevelt prevented these by threatening the army to run the mines.

    The square deal was created by Roosevelt and it had the goals of conservation, corporation control, and consumer production.
  • 16th Amendment

    16th Amendment
    The 16th amendment was created on July 2nd, 1909 allowing the government to collect taxes on income. Eventually this meant that governments biggest income would be from taxes. This amendment also allowed the government to become very powerful. The amendment was ratified in 1913.
  • 17th Amendment

    17th Amendment
    The 17th amendment created on May 13, 1912, made governors be elected through the states popular vote. Before this was passed, governors were voted by state legislatures. Many believed that this would make the democracy stronger. It was ratified on April 8th, 1913.

    In 1914 the Federal Trade Commission was made. It regulated businesses trade.
  • Clayton Antitrust Act

    "Unsatisfied by Wilson’s approach, progressives in Congress
    responded by passing the Clayton Antitrust Act in 1914. The act outlawed certain practices that restricted competition such as price
    discrimination, or charging different customers different prices".
  • 18th Amendment

    18th Amendment
    The 18th amendment was passed in December of 1917 and it prohibited the sales of alcohol. It was ratified in January of 1918. Many americans hated this amendment. Eventually crime was involved and people began making and illegally selling alcohol. The 21st amendment was eventually created which allowed alcohol to be sold again.
  • 19th Amendment

    19th Amendment
    The 19th amendment was passed on June 4th, 1919 and gave women the right to vote. The amendment was ratified on August 18th, 1920. It took awhile for women to fight for this amendment but they eventually got it. From here on out gender equality improved.
