  • The Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand

    The Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand
    Archduke Ferdinand was shot along with his wife on June 28, 1914 while visiting injured individuals in Bosnia. Gavrilo Princip threw a bomb at Archduke and fled the scene. Many people were hospitalized due to the attack. The second opportunuity Gavrilo Princip had to get to Archduke was while he was in the bar and Archduke Ferdinand was driving by with his wife. He ran outside and shot him and his wife which both resulted in death.
  • Germany's Schlieffen Plan

    Germany's Schlieffen Plan
    The plan failed and didn't meet expectations. The original plan was to invade and attack France and Russia before they could do anything, but the alliance managed to do it faster than the Germans.
  • Battle of Syrian Lakes

    Battle of Syrian Lakes
    Russia moves to fight before Germany does and moves to parts of Germany which then forces Germany to rethink its troop rearrangement. This fight resulted in Germany's victory.
  • Race to the Sea

    Race to the Sea
    The Germans hoped to capture and block off French ports while the French tried to do the same resulting in battles such as Ypres.
  • German Invasion of Belgium

    German Invasion of Belgium
    The Germans invade Belgium and eventually word spread of the horrible things done to the people, and this spreads to the US leading to hatred towards the Germans.
  • Britain Surrounds Germany with Navy

    Britain Surrounds Germany with Navy
    To block off supplies, the British used their naval chain to block any incoming resources from the Germans. This lasted the entire war up until the signing of the treaty.
  • Gallipoli Campagin

    Gallipoli Campagin
    Russia, Britain, and France together combined efforts to try to overthrow Ottoman Power, which failed and lead to German, Italian, and Ottoman victory.
  • The Lusitania

    The Lusitania
    At this time, the German forces sunk an American ship, which killed around 128 Americans. This leads to the states joining the war effort against Germany.
  • Battle of Verdun

    Battle of Verdun
    Fought in France in defense of Germany launching an attack. There were over 400,000 deaths on both sides, the ultimate purpose of the battle being to kill as many people as possible.
  • Battle of Somme

    Battle of Somme
    In an effort to break the stalemate, the allies launch an attack. This would be the bloodiest battle of WW1 leading to 1 million deaths along with the introduction of the tank by the British.
  • Zimmerman Telegram

    Zimmerman Telegram
    The Germans sent a telegram to the Mexican government basically saying to join them and in return, they would be granted land from the US. This was intercepted, and the US officially declared war.
  • Russian Revolution

    Russian Revolution
    The Russian Government of monarchy is now destroyed leading to a communist government. Russia was now out of the war and became the USSR.
  • Battle of Passchendaele

    Battle of Passchendaele
    This was one of the bloodiest battles coming close to the Battle of Somme. This resulted in thousands of death that proved useless to Ally's cause and is a symbol of the needless blood shed during WW1.
  • German Revolution

    German Revolution
    Near the end of the war, the Germans rebelled and overthrew their traditional monarchial government. The mass amounts of deaths lead to the people being unhappy.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles
    Germany lost and was blamed for most of the war, and was heavily in debt due to having to pay reparations and give up land.
