    John Adams

    John Adams was an American patriot and the second president of the United States. He helped to lead the American Revolution against Britain. His cousin, Samuel Adams was also a leader in the American Revolution and Adams collaborated with him frequently. He served 2 terms in office.

    Thomas Jefferson

    Thomas Jefferson was one of the founding fathers and served as the third president of the United States. He helped increase trade between the USA and other countries such as Britain.

    James Madison

    James Madison was one of the founding fathers and was the 4th president of the United States. He helped to draft and promote the constitution. He also helped to supervise the Louisiana purchase. Madison was a great leader of our country and helped to establish some of the most basic laws and rights of today.

    Jame Monroe

    Jame Monroe was the fifth president of the United States. He was the last founding father to serve as president. After him no other founding fathers served as president. Monroe fought in the battle of Trenton and other battles. His election was one where he faced little opposition and this helped to unite the country under one leader.

    Tecumseh

    Tecumseh was a leader of the native american people. He and the people who followed him became good allies of Britain in the War of 1812. This helped to establish relationships between Britain and the Native Americans.

    Washington's Farewell Address

    George Washington decided to step down after 2 terms as president. He was the very first person to do this. In doing so, he set an example for others to follow. This is the reason we only let presidents be in office for two terms today.

    Hamiltons Economic Plan

    Alexander Hamilton's plan was to crush the HUGE debt that the USA was facing. He wanted for the government to assume the entire debt and to borrow money at a lower interest rate.
  • Whiskey Rebellion

    The Whiskey Rebellion is when the government imposed a tax on all distilled spirits. So, a number of people protested against this. Protesters used violence and intimidation to prevent federal officials from collecting the tax. End result was that the government won.
  • Election of 1800

    This was the 4th election. Between Jefferson and John Adams. Each side believed that victory by the other would ruin the nation.
  • Midnight Judges

    Shortly before his presidency was over. John Adams signed a new law into order, this helped to reorganize the federal court system. These judges that were appointed where only in office until John Adams last day in office at midnight. Hence the term 'Midnight Judges'
  • Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana Purchase was when the USA purchased 827,000 square miles of land from France for about 15 million dollars. This was one of the main ideas of the American Dream. It helped to get us closer to the west coast which was our ultimate goal.
  • Marbury v. Madison

    Marbury v. Madison was a United States Supreme Court case which helped form the basis for judicial review in the Constitution.
  • Steam Boat

    The steam boat was one of the most advanced inventions of its time. It helped people travel across water without the need for wind or other environmental factors. It used coal to heat water and produced steam. This propelled the boat forward. The steam boat helped to get people to places quicker.
  • Embargo Act

    The Embargo Act was a law introduced in 1807. It was passed by Jefferson and it prohibited all american ships from doing business in foreign ports.

    The National Road was one of the first major highways in the United States built by the federal government. It helped people cross greater distances on land.

    War of 1812

    The War of 1812, was the war fought between the USA and the UK. This war carried on for a total of 3 years before Jays treaty was signed. The War of 1812 was a major turning point in how we deal with other countries today. It helped to establish how we make treaties and how our foreign policy works
  • Hartford Convention

    The Hartford Convention was a bunch of meetings held in Hartford where the Federalist Party met up to talk about grievances for the war of 1812.
  • The Erie Canal

    The Erie Canal was one of the fist canals built in New York by the federal government. It helped people cross distances in the city by using the Erie Canal.
  • Steel Plow

    The Steel Plow was used in farming and it helped to speed up the time it took to plow fields. This greatly increased the amount of food you could produce and lowered the overall cost of the food.
  • Missouri Compromise

    The Missouri Compromise was when it was being decided if Missouri would be considered a slave state or a free state. In the end it was decided (in order to balance congress) that Missouri would be a slave state and Maine would be a free state.
