The Colonists were ready to retaliate. They and there militia in massachusetts hid British weapons in a nearby town with minutemen ready at any minute to attack. British forces found out and went to Concord to destroy the weapons. Paul Revere rode on a horse to warn the minute men and people around that the British were coming. Nathan Hale was one of the first spy's that volunteered for the colonists. A lot of other advancements were made like mercenaries which were soldiers payed to fight for a country that wasn't there's. The colonists knew they needed more, so they created an alliance with France knowing they would want to defeat Britain.
