Unit 14 timeline

  • Missouri comprimise

    This event involves Henry Clay, the person that made the comprimise. What took place was when Maine became a free state and Missouri became a slave state. This comprimse started because the balance between slave and free states was even but Missouri wanted to become a slave state so they needed a new state to make it even again.
  • Willmot Proviso

    Wilmot was a man that believed that the new territories given to the United States should be against slavery. This event took place in the North, South, Captial, and the new territory. This event involves all of America including the new territory. The outcome of this was the congress amended the bill fearing the addition of more pro slavery states.
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    This event involves the slaves, the owners, and the people that tried to help runaway slaves escape.
  • Comprimise of 1850

    These were several laws passed in 1850 regarding the debate of territorial expansion and slavery. The 5 laws were: 1. AN act respecting Fugitives from justice,and persons escaping from the service of their masters 2. AN act to suppress the slave trade in DC 3. An act for the admission of state of California 4. An act to address the lines of Utah. 5 AN act making the state of texas.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    This was a book regarding slavery and telling a story about it. The book was written by Harriet Beacher Stowe. It was written in Cincinati OH. It was written to open people's eyes about the harsh things to deal with slavery. The book made an uproar in the north opening a lot of peoples minds
  • Kansas/Nebraska Act.

    It was started by Stephen A Douglas in 1854. This act has to deal with the position (Non-Slavery or Pro-Slavery) of Kansas and Nebraska. It allowed the residents of each state to decide for themselves what they wanted. This act was in Kansas, Nebraska, and Washington DC.
  • Dred Scott Case

    He was a slave whos owner moved from a slave state to a free state. He moved with them but tried to use legal action to get out of slavery. The government didn't allow him to leave his owners. Dred Scott remained a slave. The MO comprimise was void. Slavery is not legal in every state.
  • The Lincoln-Douglas debate

    This event involves Douglas, Lincoln, and the state of Illionis. What happened in this debate was Douglas followed Lincoln on every town Lincoln went to to get people to like vote for him for senator. Douglas followed him to also make people vote for him.
  • John Brown's Raid

    John Browns Raid was a raid that occurred in 1859. John Brown was an abolitionist that lived in Connecticut. In 1859 he started a rebellion where he raided Harper's Ferry, Virginia. The Raid was meant to be peaceful but soon john brown got out of control. 16 men were killed in the raid, 10 being Brown's men. This affected the North because it tainted the North to be monsters.
  • Lincoln's election of 1860

    This event involves John C. Breckenridge, and Lincoln. The three people running against Lincoln were John C. Breckenridge, and John Bell. Each person were in different parties. John Breckenridge being democrat, Lincoln being republican, and John Bell being Constitution. This event impacted history by changing the Civil War.
  • Southern Secession

    This event has to deal with the Confederate South and how they became their own land.This effected history because it showed the North that they had a bigger problem then slavery. Part of the reason why the South seceded is John Brown's Raid.
