The Umayyad Caliphate
After the fourth caliph died, Umayyad dynasty ruled. They moved to Damascus and divided their lands into into emirates. They conquered India, Samarkand and the Iberian Peninsula. -
Period: 750 to 1259
The abbasid caliphate
After the death of the Umayyads, the Abbasid dynasty ruled. They controlled all the regions except al-Andalus, which the remaining Umayyad ruler governed. The abassid dynasty moved the capital to Baghdad and this period was the height of the muslim empire. -
