  • THE DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM INFRASATRUCTURE

    many countries in the 1970,s invested in developing their tourism infrastructure, including hotels and airports as well as attractions this helped to accommodate and grow the numbers of vitiators to these countries. these factors played a huge part in the structure of the travel and tourism industry today.
  • THE OIL CRISIS

    the oil embargo imposed by OPEC ended up in severely high prices. therefore affecting airline ticket prices and a decrease in customers flying. due to this many airlines had to cut routes or increase flying fares which impacted the travel industry significantly.
  • THE VIETNAM WAR

    the end of Vietnam war in 1975 resulted in an increase in the interest in Southeast Asia as a travel destination. many western tourists began to explore countries like Thailand and Vietnam, which in previous years were less accessible and popular.
  • EMERGENCE OF PACKAGE TOURS

    the popularity of package tours increased largely in this decade making travel more accessible to a wider audience. making the travek and tourism indusrty more popular than ever before.
  • TECHNOLOGICAL ADVENCEMENTS

    the introduction of technological and computerized travel reservations systems became revolutionary and made the way we travel now. this began making it easier for consumers to plan trips.
  • CRUISE INDUSTRY

    the cruise industry began to gain momentum in the 1980s with many more companies entering the market and offering diverse and specialized itineraries which was very appealing to a wide range of travelers. these developments contributed to the evolving world of the travel and tourism industry.
  • THE FALL OF THE BERLIN WALL

    although the berlin wall fell in the 1980s the effects carried out throughout 1990 and the entire decade which resultingly effected the Eastern Europe countries and opened up a surge to travel to these previous inaccessible destinations .
  • THE GULF WAR

    the gulf war between 1990-1991 had a huge major impact on international travel especially in the middle east., many travelers avoided this region for a lengthy amount of time leading to a decline on tourism i the affected areas.
  • INTERANTIONAL SPORTING EVENTS

    major sporting events occurred i the 1990s which affected the tourism industry. events such as the Barcelona 1992 Olympics and the 1994 FIFA world cup in the US boosted the tourism because of how many people were travelling to watch their beloved sport.
  • HURRICANE KATRINA

    hurricane Katrina caused over 22 thousand people to lose their jobs. As well as this , many millions of people are scared to fly for the months after a serious hurricane so many airlines lost millions of pounds due to the lack of customers.
  • SOCIAL MEDIA OVERTAKE

    in 2001, TRIPADVISOR was released to the public for public use and it was the craze for many obsessed travellers. when everyones opionions started coming out many companies started dropping in numbers. airlines lost customers and places to stay lost regular customers. the posts from influencers and soical media stars also strated influencing many peoples opinions on ways to travel,paces to visit and peoples overall thoughts.
  • TWIN TOWERS ATTACK

    the terrorist attacks that took place in 2001 in the United states had a profound impact on global travel. security measures were drastically increased all over the world, including in all airports. This lead to longer wait times and changes in travel behavior. many people became hesitant to travel resulting in a large drastic decrease in air travel.
  • BLM

    the BLM movement gained more attention becuase of the death of several black individuals killed by white police officers. aswell as this in 2013 three black social media influencers started using the quote #BlackLivesMatter which then influenced millions around the world to use the hashtag. this quote has now continued to grow more and more throughput the years as well as being used on social media, news and at protests.
  • MANCHESTER BOMBING

    on the 22nd May 2017 there was a bombing at an Ariana Grande concert. as a result of the bombing attack, the numbers in the tourism industry lowered as a panic of the recent bombing attacks.
  • COVID-19

    from the worldwide pandemic when the world shut down there was no travelling allowed which overall shutdown the toursim industry for 2 years. this caused many people to lose their income and regular pays.
