    The New World was discovered
    New diseases were brought to America, killing off a lot of the American Indians because they were not immune to any of them. Gold was discovered, Trials came with trying to convert the Indians to Christianity.
  • Slavery begins and is used throughout the 17th and 18th century

    Slavery begins and is used throughout the 17th and 18th century
    African Americans are taken to serve the American settlers and are bought by them to work for them for the rest of their lives. They are taught that they are nothing without their owners and that they do not know anything and they are not allowed to learn.

    Puritans were to practice religious tolerance and had to let other people who were not of the same religious practices vote. Nobody had to stick to the strict Puritanic code anymore and it was announced that in order to be of a certain faith they had to have personal realization, not just practice what they were told to do.

    Colonists decided to revolt against Great Britain
    Everything was heavily taxed so they revolted and all the taxes were lifted except one. The colonists refused to buy anything and went on strike against Britain because their taxing was not represented by the Parliment. The Sugar Act and the Stamp act were appealed but taxes on other things were raised.

    The states struggled with making the new government because of the lack of national unity, Hamilton and Jefferson had different ideas on how to run the country and what to do about the money issue within the states, and also harsh punishment for people who did not follow the laws that were created.

    Transportation and trade were made simpler by the new inventions that were being created. Factories made work and manufacturing goods more efficient and easier. Immagration was one of the causes to the expansion of the Americas and expanded the growth rate of the trade union.

    The Treaty of Ghent led America to the development of industries. War gave America strong national pride and helped them aquire Florida.
  • Women's Rights

    Women's Rights
    Women became basically enslaved to their husbands. All power was handed to him when they were wed. She was refused education and her husband would stop at nothing to destroy her confidence and lessen her self respect by making her feel like she is less important than him.

    Americans in the early 1800 believed it was their destiny to expand to the Pacific ocean. There was economic problems in the East which further encouraged the Americans to move West.

    1840-1870 the Americas face some problems
    Cities began meeting the supply and demand of transportation during the rapid expansion. Safe drinking water was hard to find. The cities were not sanitary, there were a lot of fires, and crime was a large issue. In order to have their own home, the immagrants had a hard time getting to their jobs.

    Steel helped build railroads, Electricity was invented and factories were able to be built. The typewriter was invented and all these inventions changed daily life. Railroads created difficult working conditions but it helped link the nation and stimulated the growth of certain goods.

    Native Americans were kicked out of their land and were alloted a certain area which was very sacred to them. The settlers were killing their buffalo which the Native Americans depended on. The settlers also killed a lot of their people when they were refusing to leave and were always cheated out of the best land.

    Farmers were very poor and they had a hard time paying off their loans. Homesteaders had t o provide for their own needs. Railroads sold land to farmers at low prices but they were isolated. Populists wanted to urge policies to help the farmers.

    Christianity became hope for freedom for the enslaved. Slaves were minipulated into slavery by being told America has something to offer them. Some slaves rebelled which scared the slave owners and made them even more against abolition.

    The Civil War made the federal goverment larger and stronger, and widened the economic gap between the North and the South. Lincoln put aside time for rebuilding the nation and readmitting the Southern states to the nation.
  • Reconstruction

    Freedmen's Bereau helped former slaves and garanteed rights to African Americans. The Fourteeth Amendment made them citizens. The States had to allow them to vote and they were able to establish new lives.
  • Thaddeus Stevens vs. Andrew Johnson

    Thaddeus Stevens vs. Andrew Johnson
    Stevens wanted to give the freed slaves the right to vote and give them money to build houses and have a fair chance at life and the opportunity to have the same rights as the rest of the Americans. Johnson thought that America did not have enough money to "waste" on the African Americans. He believed they had already spent enough money on freeing them and that they did not know enough to have the right to vote.
  • Chinese Exclusion Act

    Restricted Chinese Immagration and they had to be qualified in order to immigrate. If they were already in the United States and they wanted to leave they were restricted from re-entering. They portrayed the Chinese as unskilled workers.
  • Labor Strikes

    Laborers went on strike for less hours and higher wages, they won that but kept wanting more and eventually some of them gave in. All the workers there lost their jobs . When a fire broke out lots of workers lost their life and many people were outraged.
  • Race within the Americas

    Certain races were getting certain jobs because they would work for less, Immagrants were usually the people to get the jobs. They were belittled for their race.
