NLRA
In 1935, Congress passed the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA)
Allowed workers to have elections to decide if they want to be represented
Established laws protecting employees from discrimination based on union- or group-related activity
Created the NLRB as an administrative organization to enforce the law -
World War II
This War breaking out gave people jobs at factories where they needed regulations and fair wages unions helped get this -
Vietnam War
Just like getting in to WW2 this created jobs and at the same time more need for unions -
Steel Strike of 1959
In 1959 with steel industry rising workers took notice and demanded higher wages which was attempted by 500,00 workers on strike. -
The 1970 Postal Strike
210,000 people went on strike to fight with wages and work conditions (ext). -
UPS Workers Strike
187,000 workers went on strike demanding higher wages this was successful and in the process UPS lost 600 million
