A strike for better working hours for railway workers in Baltimoore soon creates riots in most of the United States. Many railways had to wait more than a month for construction to begine again. -

The American Federation of LAbor is formed to help unions and to protect unions. This was very effective, since the AFL is still around to this day. -

This was made to stop business monopolies. Instead the businesses used this against unions. -
HomeStead Strike
The owner of a steel company was determined to end the union that had formed in his business. What insued after he hired men to attack some workers, could only be descrubed as a blood bath. -

Wobblies are formed and they are a very radical group for the union. -
LA Times Bombing
The LA Times was an anti union orginazation that got what it deserved. One early morning two men bombed the place, killing two people, the men would later admit to two other bombings. -
Wagner Act
A bill signed by President Franklin Roosevelt on July 5th. It made the National Labor Relations bored. It addressed relations between workers and there managers. -
WWII
WWII opened up a lot of jobs for people to have. It made our unemployment go way down. It also opened the doors for Unions. -
Taft-Hartly Act
Its a law that restricts the power a Union has. It was created because of unions forcing people to do stuff they did not want to do. -
200,000 postal workers, VS Nixon
Postal workers were determined to get better pay and decided to go on strike. For a whole 12 days, no mail was delivered until the pay was increased. -
MLB Lock Out
A lock out is what happens when the managers shut down so that no one may work there. The MLB lock out happened when the players demanded more moeny, then the owners shut down until the players calmed down.
