  • Treaty of Versailles

    The treaty was signed at the end of WWI. Which created tons of regulations on Germany. Hitler used this, by claiming he would bring them into power.
  • Hitler Voted into Power

    On 19 August 1934, the German people were asked to vote on whether or not they approved the merging of the two offices and Hitler's new role as Führer. 95.7% of the population voted. 89.93% voted in favor of Hitler. Also with Hindenburg gone, there was no longer a limit to Hitler's power.

    German Invasion of Poland

    Germany breaks through the Polish borders, quickly advancing towards the capital, Warsaw. Hundreds of thousands of refugees fled the German advance, in hopes of the Polish arm halting them.
  • Pearl Harbor

    In the morning, 177 Japanese aircraft fly Pearl Harbor, in Oahu, bombing the American naval base. This angers the American government, and leads to the Americans joining WWII.
  • Iwo Jima

    After 36 days of fighting, the U.S. Marines secured the island of Iwo Jima. They captured 216 Japanese soldiers. Though nearly 7,000 Marines were killed and almost 20,000 were injured.

    Axis Powers Surrender

    Germany surrenders first, ending the war in Europe. Japan doesn't surrender till later, after the 2 bombings.
  • Atomic Bombs are Dropped on Japan

    The United States drops two atomic bombs over the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They do this to persuade the final Axis power, Japan, to surrender.
