Japanese Americans sent to internment camps.
The Japanese American program that put Japanese Americans in internment had many costly consequences. Camp residents lost $400 million in property during their time. Congress provided $38 million in reparations in 1948 and later an additional $20,000 was paid to each survivor who had been detained in the camps. -
Iwo Jima
U.S marines invade Iwo Jima, approximately 70,000 U.S. Marines and 18,000 Japanese soldiers took part in the battle.
