Sino-Japanese War
Japan was resource poor, and therefore wanted to aquire new resources by taking over Korea from China, which was rich with minerals and in an very advantageous location. Tensions grew between Japan and China and that led to the war. Japan won, and was rewarded with Korea and Taiwan from China. -

Russo-Japanese War
When Japan defeated China, Russia thought that it would be beneficial to them if they controlled Manchuria and Korea. Not going to let this happen, Japan declared war on Russia. Japan successfully was victorious of Russia and was the very first country that defeated a European country. Being the first country to defeat a European country, resulted in other European nations seeing Japan as a threat, and therefore Japan had major power. -

During the war Japan gained many German and Pacific colonies. However, Japan wanted more economic and political power. China was forced to give them this power, and that provided Japan with many of the resource they needed to increase the Industrialization in Asia. More power increased their need for a military, in order to maintain their supremacy. -
New Government
A new government came into power after Japanese production declined. Ultranationalism in the military still had a huge impact on the country. Therefore, a different governement was needed in order to keep up with the growing factions of Ultranationalism. -
The Great Depression
Japan, being an island with a few natural resources, strongly relied on foreighn trade for its economy. When the Great Depression hit, countries no longer imported Japanese luxuries and the value of their exports dropped by 50%. -
Invasion of Manchuria
Since the Great Depression caused Japans economy to go down, Japanese governments were desperate for a way to bring back the economy. With a lack of resources and building space, Japan invaded the area of Manchuria in China, which was a very resource rich region. -

During the War, Japan was sererely devastated from defeat. Industries and Transportation networks were destroyed. Military influence ended and the country focused more on industrial growth. The recovery from the war was very rapid, and Japan once again became a huge economic force in the world. -
Co-Prosperity Sphere
The main ultranationalist goal of this was to make Asian countries allies with eachother, and free them from Western control and influence. The countries that comprised this empire would be under Japanese rule,and exploited for the benefit of the: population,economy,and industries of Japan.
