    The Franco-Prussian War

    This war was fought between 1870-1871. It was the result of long standing rivalries between France and the northern German states. They were fighting over who should control Spain. Germany defeated France in the Alsace-Lorraine, and therefore gained many resources.

    Germany Becomes a Super Power

    Germany experienced huge economic growth, and became a rival of Great Britain. Germany began to expand its navy, and directly challenged Britain. This caused Britain to allie with France, which led to many alliances throughout Europe.

  • The Treaty of Versailles

    The Treaty of Versailles
    It ended the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers.
    France wanted to eliminate German military power, and finacial compensation. Germany was ordered to pay $33 billion to France.
    Britain wanted Germany's navy to be limited. They did not agree with the compensation that France desired.
    The main goal of the treaty was to cripple Germany's economy and help repay for way damages.

    The Rise of Hitler and the Creation of the Nazi Party

    In Germany, the Nazi party got wide support for the changes they brought and encouraged. Hitler fought for Germany to become powerful once again, and to return to how they were before the Treaty of Versailles. Hitler pulled Germany out of the League of Nations, and began rearming the military.
    Hitler's expansion policies were encouraged by League of Nations failures, and Italian aggression. Hitler started gaining more land, and invaded Austria
