    Japan bombed Pearl Harbor to try and cripple America from defending it's islands in the Pacific and stop Japan from taking those islands and land in Asia.

    U.S and Britain strategic bombing

    In February 1942 Winston Churchill gave approval to start bombing industrial cities in Germany. This was meant to take out factories that are supplying the Germans. All this really did though is kill a bunch of civilians. America also used this strategy. One well known example is their night raid on Tokyo March 9th 1945. Around 100,000 Japanese were killed and many more were injured.

    U.S. island hopping across the Pacific.

    Midway Island was held by the Americans. The Japanese wanted this island as a strategic base for future attacks on America. The U.S. knew the attack was coming and won the battle that occurred from June 3rd to June 7th 1942. After this the Americans chose a strategic path way to get to Japan. This meant not taking over every island. Just attacking the important ones to get to Japan. They used this strategy through 1944 and 1945 till they got to Japan.

    U.S. invades Africa.

    U.S. invades Africa in the North Left Corner and pushes east starting on November 8th 1942. As the U.S. did this, Britain was in Egypt pushing west. They had a major joint victory on May 13th that basically finished off German forces in Africa.
  • U.S. and Britain invade Sicily and Italy

    After Africa, Allie forces started attacking Italy and Sicily. After June 10th 1943 fighting went smoother as the Italians started to help us.
  • D-Day Invasion

    D-Day Invasion
    After being postponed two days by weather Operation Overlord began. The allied forces were going to attack 5 beaches in France held by the Germans. Britain took Gold and Sword Beach, the Canadians took Juno Beach, and America took Utah and Omaha Beach. They met fierce resistance at Omaha beach. After the victory of D-Day, Paris was liberated August 1944. As they rushed to Berlin Allied forces discovered the Nazi horror of concentration camps.

    German surrenders after Hitler kills himself, and with not much left to substain a resistance.

    U.S. drops the Atomic Bomb

    Japan would not give up fighting after four years of fighting. U.S. dropped the first Atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6th 1945 instantly vaporizing 70,000 people. Later 100,000 people also died. Three days later on August 9th another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. Japan surrendered on August 14th 1945.
