The main issue for the Missouri Compromise was whether new states would be admitted as free or slave states. The North and South were impacted differently because it affected the balance of power in Congress. The Missouri Compromise increased tensions by making slavery a national political issue. -

The Nullification crisis was when the U.S government put a tariff on goods and the south didn't pay the tariffs. This mostly affected the south because the were very reliant on things that were coming in from other countries. This coused tension between the north and south because the south didn't follow the laws when the north was. -

One problem with the The Compromise of 1850 is the fugitive slave laws. The northerners were mostly impacted because they had to give back slaves that had escaped to the north. It increases tension because the people in the north didn't want to give back the slaves that had escaped to the north. -

People in the north were mostly affected by this law because they were forced to give bucket slaves that had escaped to the north and the people in the north. They were affected by this because even though the slaves had made it to the north they still had to be returned to their owner and if they didn't follow this law they could get fined or go to jail. -
Uncle tom's Cabin
Uncle Tom's cabin made the readers relies what it saw like to be a slave, and it pulled on their heat strings. This made them go from being not bothered by slavery, to hating it. Because the north now knows how bad slavery is, they hate the north for still making slavery legal. -
Bleeding Kansas and the Pottawatomie Massacre
The main issue in Bleeding Kansas and the Pottawatomie Massacre was that the north and south wanted to get back at each other with violence. This affected the north and south because they were both in fear of each other. These events increased Sectionalism because it brought in violence. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
The main issue in the Kansas-Nebraska Act replaced the Missouri Compromise by replacing the 36 30 line with popular sovereignty. Both the north and south were impacted by this because they could now vote for whether they want the state to a be free or a slave state. This increased sectionalism because it made the pro-slavery people and abolitionists in were mad at each other because they each wanted Kansas or Nebraska to be on their side. -
The Dred Scott Decision
The main issue in the Dred Scott case was whether Dred Scott would be able to be free or not. The north was mostly impacted because it showed that not all slaves where truly free in the north. This increased tensions between the north and the south because the north felt like it didn't have as much power as the south. -
John Brown’s Raid and Trial
The main issue in the John Brown’s raid and trial was whether John Brown was guilty of treason and in the end they decided that he was. Both the south and north were impacted but I think that the north was impacted more because to a lot of people in the north John Brown was a hero and they had to see him die. This added to sectionalism because in the eyes of the north John Bown was a hero and to the south so it created a divide between the people. -
The Election of Abraham Lincoln
When Abraham Lincoln was running for president he said that if he got elected he would abolish slavery. This made the south mad because slavery was a big part of their life. The north was also mad because the south said that they were going to secede if Abraham got elected. It affected both the south and the north because they would go to war if the south seceded. This increased sectionalism because the south was threatening to secede.
