  • The Platt Amendent

    In 1903, the Platt Amendment was forced into the Cuban consititution. It stated that the U.S. could use Cuba for its own purposes. The United States used it many times to send in troops and protect investments. It was repealed in 1934 due to FDR's "good neighbor policy" towards Latin America.

    U.S. took control of the Panama Canal in order to have the upper hand in trading and transportation. The canal was completed in 1914. In today's dollars, the canal cost $14.3 billion. Around 25,000 workers were killed which was around 4% of the labor force.
