  • Signing of the Declaration of Independence

    On July 4th, 1776, the delceration of independence was signed.
  • The Adoption of the Articles of Confederation

    The articles of confederation were the United States' first written form of government.
  • The british surrender at Yorktown

    When the British General Charles Cornwallis surrendered his troops in Yorktown, Virginia. General Cornwallis brought 8,000 British troops to Yorktown. They expected help from British ships sent from New York.
  • Shay's Rebellion: Attack on the Springfield Armory

    Farmers had made sacrifices during the revolution and were then demanded to pay their debts, which angered them. They than attacked a federal arsenal and the government attacked back.

    Produced cotton first and led to women having jobs and clothing being manufactured commonly.

    Andrew Jackson forced the Cherokee indians to move west so that the whites could have their land. 4,000 cherokee died.
  • Gold Discovered at Sutter's Mill

    On Jan. 24, 1848, James W. Marshall discovered gold in a river near Sutter's mill, sparking the California Gold Rush.
  • Signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    The war officially ended with the February 2, 1848, signing in Mexico of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The treaty added an additional 525,000 square miles to United States territory, including the land that makes up all or parts of present-day Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
