    This "lost colony" was established in 1585 on Roanoke island. It was financed and organized by Sir Walter Raleigh. John white decided to depart for England while promising to come back with supplies. When he returned to the Island, he found the settlement deserted and vacant.     Jamestown was the first permant settlement in North America near Willamsberg, Virgina. Famine, disease, and conflict was really bad the first 2 years with Native American tribes.     New York was an English colony in North America that existed from 1626 until 1776, by Peter Minuit. It was often called the breadbasket colony because it grew so many crops.     The Mayflower Compact was a set of rules for self-governance established by the English settlers who traveled to the New World on the Mayflower. When settlers set out on the ship for America in 1620, they wanted to anchor in Virginia. But they hit horrible storms and landed in Massachusetts. The climate was warm which made it a lot easier to grow crops year round.     Founded in 1682 by William Penn at Philadelphia. In 1775 Pennsylvania was governed as a Proprietary Colony. The reason they founded this colony was to get religious freedom for Quakers, trade, and profits. The colony never had a military, and never got involved in the Indian wars. This really was a game changer for their economic growth.     The Salem witch trials began during 1692, after a group of young girls in Salem Village, Massachusetts, claimed to be possessed by the devil. They then accused several women of witchcraft. More than 200 people were accused of witchcraft and 20 were killed during this horrible time. The cause of the witch trials is still unknown to this day.     The Great Awakening was a religious revival that impacted the English colonies in America. Christian leaders traveled from town to town trying to promote christianity. In Result, was a renewed dedication toward religion. Many historians consider Jonathan Edwards one of the main fathers of the Great Awakening.     The Albany Plan of Union was an idea made at the Albany Congress back in 1754 shooting at a formation of a strong union of the colonies under one single government. This was fulfilled because of the need for defense against the threats and consequences posed by the French and Indian War. It was proposed by Benjamin Franklin. At the beginning of the war, the French and Natives of North America fought as allies against the British. France had gained control of most of eastern Canada by the time war had broken out.     After the French and Indian War ended in America, the British Empire began to have tighter control over its colonies.This proclamation, was the first measure to affect all thirteen colonies. It closed down colonial expansion westward. King George III declared lands west of the Appalachian were completely off-limits to colonial settlers.     Salutary Neglect was a British Policy in the 13 colonies which allowed the colonists to flout, or violate, the laws associated with trade. There were no enforcement agencies and it was expensive to send British troops to America.     Rhode Island was founded in 1636 by Roger Williams. Rhode Island was founded by people who wanted to escape lack of religious expectancy found in the other New England colonies. It was home to the first Jewish synagogue and the first Baptist church. Roger Williams paid the Indians for their land because as he believed it was the right thing to do.
