The Moving Assembly Line
When: 1913
Who: Henry Ford
Why: To make his Model T automobiles quicker and easier: the car moved down the line allowing for workers to remain in place and complete their part of the assembly, which increased efficiency and lowered costs. A car that used to take 12 hours to manufacture now took just two hours and thirty minutes.
